does anyone know how to get an employee fired for doing bad things. For instance I work with 3 yr olds. She is so mean to them and so nasty. I didn't want to sound like a rat, but she shouldn't be working with children.
What would u do??
Please some feedback thanks

I did talk to her and she is going to be visiting our classroom more often now. I am just going to be more uncomfortable now. I don't know. But I hear there is a new law that says if you see someone being abusive and you don't report it, you can get in trouble too!

YES! You are not being mean, you are taking responsibility. When I was younger, I took a job at a day care center. The head teacher in the room on my first day was giving out snack, well, right next to the table is pictures of the children and the foods they are deathly allergic to, so the head teacher went to hand a little girl cantaloupe, and even I KNEW ON MY FIRST DAY that she was VERY allergic to it, and I grabbed the plate from the head teacher and said, 'What are you doing?' And her response was, 'Oh please, she'll be fine.' Well, I spoke to the supervisor and when they told me not to worry about it, I said I could not work for a place that did not have the child's best interest at heart and I went walking out the door.

Good 4 u Rachel That was great !
But 1 of the things that bother me are that, she won't let a child bring in a sippy cup, He's not even 3 yet!! Give me a break!! And he just comes in the morning with it. And the parent told me that she's still bringing it in anyway.
Thanks for your input

Well good for the parent. That is not for her to decide, that is the parent's decision, unless of course, the child has an OT or SLP who says no sippy cups, in which case, I can understand. But that's ridiculous. I would just wait to see what happens. The supervisor is now aware and hopefully they will have a talk with her.

Re: Not to sound mean but....
If I were you I would flat out tell her to stop yelling at the kids. Telling the supervisor is good, and the fact that she'll be visiting more is good too, but when she visits, I am sure this gal will not be yelling!! The place I am working at is the same, the other teachers scream at their kids, me, I just can't yell at them, no matter how bad they are, I'll put a different tone in my voice, but not yell. I actually had a new kid put in to my class on Thursday from the other pre school class because the mother said the other teacher yelled way too much at the kids and I am so calm and gentle with them!! I felt so proud at that moment that people were requesting me and complementing my teaching!! Maybe you could slip and anonymous note into her mailbox if she has one asking her to stop yelling at the kids. But if it were me, I would just flat out tell her to chill a bit. Maybe if you can, when you see her losing it, you could run over and take over for a bit, or call someone else over and tell her to take a little break to cool off. I am sure she doesn't mean to be mean, but at that age the kids really don't listen and it is frustrating, so maybe she just needs a few minutes to relieve the tention in her brain!!

Re: Not to sound mean but....
DO you have a union whre you work? I am a flight attendant and when someone is a bit shall we say 'off'- we report them to the unions 'professional standards committee'.
At that point they handle them w/o jeopardizing thier position with our company.

Talk to your supervisor. Maybe you can 'record' everytime she 'yells' and Why she yelled. I work with children as well. Yes, it gets hectic but you have to take deep breaths and be patient with them. I change my tone, however, not into yelling. I love my children and where I work. If I dont get along with my coworker (only happened once) I let my supervisor know. Good Luck

Write down all the instances you can think of when she acted inappropriately, and record your responses. Be very, very specific. When you have a record of her actions, its easier to see trends in her behavior, and she cant say 'oh I was having a bad day' or sometthing. Take all this information to your boss. She SHOULD appreciate getting this information and its her job to rectify the situation.
I have had similar experiences, also with teaching pre-k.
Ed: Also by recording your responses, it covers your own a$$, in case something comes out later, and someone asks 'well why didnt you do anything'
