We will be taking care of the tips for the valets and bathroom attendants at the wedding. We do not want our guests to have to tip (and we will be tipping them enough to cover what the guests would tip them, yes!)
Has anyone had problems with their RHs not allowing you to put up a small sign that gratuity has been taken care? Has anyone had any problems asking the RH to make sure that the valets and bathroom attendants don't take the tips or with making sure there is not tip basket in the bathroom?
I'm not trying to swindle these hardworking folks out of money, but we will be tipping them generously. I don't want my guests to have to pay anything to them on top of that.
Thoughts? Is it tacky to have a sign?
ETA - Or do people just know not to tip and I shouldn't worry about those who feel they want to / have to?

I have the same problem. I don't know about having a sign-- I may just have my bridal party just randomly go up to guests & let them know.

I don't think they will allow it, but I might be wrong...Honestly, I say just let them do it...I understand why you want to do this, but tipping when I go to a wedding never bothered me.

we feel the same way..................we are having signs put up...... valet, bathroom, and coat attendant.... we spoke with our hall about not wanting tip baskets everywhere... They told us we could pay the parking attendants directly and they would put out a sign that says gratuities were provided by the bride and groom.....they will also do the same for bathroom and coat attendants

I agree...I know my hall doesn't allow tip jars on the bar & coat room. My BM even said if she sees one or if she sees any $$ laying on the bar it becomes hers!!
I think it is a great idea to have signs that the bride & groom have taken care of the tips.

Re: not wanting guests to tip
i can't imagine there would be any problem with signs being put up....however...i would not go as far to tell the staff to not accept tips...people read the sign and if they still choose to spend the money i dont think the bartender/coat check/bathroomattendent/valet should have to refuse it

Re: not wanting guests to tip
If they want to tip, why not let them tip??? yes, you're being generous and tipping them which is very gracious of you... but why not let them tip too? it might realyl help someone out....plus, think of all the weddings where they get stiffed... this way they can have a great night!

Re: not wanting guests to tip
I think people generally know. I asked our RH not to leave tip jars on the bar or anywhere. They agreed very easily. Some places don't agree w/that policy so it's def. worth it to ask.

DH & I felt the same way. Fact of the matter is that some people will want to tip no matter what - especially the bartenders and valet. I told the hall absolutely nothing was to be seen like a tip jar or anything of the sort - and that the bartenders, etc. should try to politely refuse by saying 'tips have been taken care of by your host.' Beyond that I didn't want any scene - people like to tip!
