Hey everyone, we're booking with TVI next week & we're really hoping to have a November Sunday afternoon wedding starting w/ a ceremony at 11am and reception at noon. Do you think it would be too cold for an outdoor ceremony? assuming that weather permits it of course, would this be okay? a few venues we looked at talked about how it would be too cold in Nov. to take pictures outside ect . and it just really got me thinking.

Re: Nov. outdoor ceremony
U never know with this crazy weather how cold it will get by then but I think it might be taking a risk. Depending on how cold it gets it can be uncomfortable for u and your guests to stand outside for a 20 min or more ceremony. I think u will be ok for pix though. Just have a back up plan for the ceremony incase its too cold.
Make sure that if you plan to have an outdoor ceremony that you are 100% comfortable with the indoor alternative just in case.
As for whether November is too cold...I remember last year there being some days where it felt downright hot (or was it the year before?), but my birthday is in late October and I remember most of my birthdays being pretty cold.

I have an outdoor cocktail hour space and it was my RH that actually recommended it. But, just in case its too cold, we do have indoor space on hold. I would definately have a back up.

I like the indoor alternative!. I just always pictured myself having an outdoor ceremony, although I know that there's always the chance of rain. My birthday is actually three days after the date we're trying to book (Nov 11) and I love that it will be cold (hate sweating) but I don't want it to be *too* cold for my guest. I plan on wearing a wedding dress with sleeves, and maybe having some sort of light cardigan for my bridesmaids and flowergirl. I'm hoping it will be sunny & in the 60's, that won't be too bad for sitting outside for a little!. Guess we'll have to wait and see!!

There shouldn't be too much rain in November but it will be chilly! You need a jacket to sit outside. Everyone will be wearing jackets in the audience. Would you want that?
Have you considered renting portable heaters? They are for outdoor use.
Also, have you considered having the wedding in October if you want it outside?

Re: Nov. outdoor ceremony
As a note, make sure you put on the invitation that the ceremony will be outdoors!! I went to a wedding in October last year. It wasn't specified, nobody knew, and people didn't have jackets and a lot (myself included) weren't dressed appropriately. I froze my behind off, the bridesmaids couldn't stop shaking, and it was super uncomfortable. I don't remember anything from the ceremony except how cold it was.

Re: Nov. outdoor ceremony
Portable heaters sounds like a good idea! I guess I'll get a better feel for what to expect when I meet with them and book our wedding, maybe they can suggest something too!. I wouldn't mind everyone being in jackets, it's only for the ceremony anyway so they can take them off once we're inside!. October was what we were originally shooting for, but the price difference was a big one unfortunately and we wanted a sunset with our afternoon wedding and the only way to make that possible was to push the time of the year back. I'll definitely have to put that in the invitation, that's a great idea..I didn't even think of that!!.

And make sure to buy your girls shawls and let them wear them if you're going strapless. The poor girls were shaking like leaves!!

Re: Nov. outdoor ceremony
Oh yeah I definitely planned on shawls!!. I could have an October Sunday afternoon actually, looking at the prices right now. The ceremony would be at 11am, reception at noon and ending at 5pm. Decisions. I want an evening wedding badly but it was out of our budget and our guest list is too small for one but I absolutely love TVI. I figured the next best thing was a sunset and November the sun sets by 4:30. I'll have to talk to the event coordinators there to get a better feel for what a Nov. wedding will be like!

Re: Nov. outdoor ceremony
Ask TVI if they provide heaters. Smithtown Landing told me they would if it happens to be too chilly if we do our reception there. TVI might already have them as well.

November can be a weird month. I've seen it in the 60's and I've also seen a massive blizzard the week of Thanksgiving. I would suggest checking the almanac. You can get an idea of what the average temperature is for your date, along with what the extreme highs and lows are. Anything less then 65 is going to be too cold for people to sit outside.

Re: Nov. outdoor ceremony
A fall wedding outdoors will def be beautiful. Not sure about your venue, but Westbury Manor allows outdoor ceremonies and cocktail hour as long as the temperature is around 65 degrees or above. The weather is unpredictable these days who knows November might feel like summer. Good luck!
