Now that film is basically obsolete...

Now that film is basically obsolete...

It seems like people take the stupidest photos

I was just looking at my parents' photos from their trip to Aruba and there seem to be a lot of pictures taken of their friends taking pictures of them... I can remember that being funny when I was about 7!!!!!!

I just ordered a new digital camera, because I have BOXES filled with crappy pictures!!! And I can't make myself throw them away either!

Yeah, well:

Digital = freedom to take crappy pics without the guilt of how much money you've spent on film and processing...which ultimately means you can take more crappy pics!!!

I know! The flash card that I ordered can hold 200 pictures

Oh yeah, and the other thing with digital is that you wind up downloading the pictures off of your camera and onto your computer, and then they sit there taking up disk space

Wait, so it's bad that I have over 6 dozen pictures of the dog wearing various hats, capes and name tags on my computer's hard drive?

i have over 10,000 pictures since i've gotten ditigal..... with about 200-300 scanned in so i could work with it in programs.... i had a ditigal camera since 2001

i back this up onto dvd often so my memories will be with me forever....

which reminds me

backup your data often. you never know when it will crash and format. i thought i erased all my pics by accident 1 time and started panicing. to find out later that my pictures were safe and i actually lost my entire music collection (1000's of songs) i was ok cause i can rebuild that.

My father got a digital camera a few months ago and he is the absolute WORST with taking stupid pictures. I cringe every time I go visit and he asks me if I want to 'look at some pictures', because I know that I'll be sitting there for about an hour being bored out of my mind.

I'm not into digital, sorry I like film and putting all my pictures in photo albums, it's fun to flip through them and my friends like flipping through them. I think you lose that when you have to view them on the computer. I also find it very annoying when some friends take pictures with their digital camera-hundreds of pictures that you are smiling and posing for then you keep asking to see them...'oh I haven't downloaded them yet'...months later...I still haven't downloaded them....I decided that I'm going to boycott posing for digital pictures. LOL...

I know people who don't develop film for months and months too.

I think we should boycott the people who don't develop or download pics in a timely fashion.

I print the nice ones and keep the rest on the computer. It has worked well so far.

i like the convenience of digital, but the quality of the prints doesn't come close to what i get from a regualr camera. even the ones i print at the pharmacy.

depends on the camera...
the SLR cameras ( ) is the closest thing to film that you will have quaility wise. and of quality, alot of factors go into play. must people will point and shoot but newer camers has a ton of settings to mirror that of what tradital film does.

Actually, it depends more on the number of pixels your camera is capable of. SLR's are pretty much 5megapixels and over these days. But, honestly, unless you're blowing your photos up (any bigger than 5x7 or so) you shouldn't notice any quality degradation if you're shooting with 3 megapixels or more.

my camera isnt bad, 3 mp. i'm sure my printer quality has something to do with it too, and i cant afford a new camera and printer right now. so i use the digital and my regular 35mm.

Re: Now that film is basically obsolete...

the camera makes a difference in regardes to speeds, type of lens, controling light, etc...

i mention about must people like to point and shoot. on my camera, (7mp) i capture everything about that picture (a raw file) and once i get back to a computer, i have ablity to control how long the lens is open, light, and a whole bunch of things that im not sure about. Some will say this is editing a picture. its not because its different then editing. look in your manual and see if you have the ablity to shoot RAW... this is how you get the best quality.

MP does matter but you have to consider the above things... having the ablity to shoot 1600x1200 pixels is great, and then being able to focus solely on 1 part of the picture is the best. if you take a 640x480 pic, and then zoom in on the face, you will see blurly, choppy picture.

yes...printing makes a huge difference also but lately, i have been going to costco cause its cheapier.
