I know lots of people do this to keep track (incase people don't write their names or whatever)...my predicament is, my response cards are postcards!! So there isn't a good place to put the number without it being obvious! how can I make this inconspicuous?
Thanks!

Maybe you can number the inside of the envelop?

Re: Numbering the response cards....
try putting the number in one of the corners,,,,,umh but you still want the person to know that 2 means 2 not 4......I would pick a color not black ink...maybe one of your wedding colors....write the number in the corner or next to the attend or will not attend.......maybe use a nice gel pen or something...not too harsh but stands out enough

I don't think that this would work since it is a post card. But I think it is a great idea for the more traditional cards.

That sounds like a good idea
ETA: Oh, it is a postcard - probably no envelope

I think she means number them just in case people don't write their names, like here: M____________________ not the number of people attending, so they don't try to bring extra guests.

Re: Numbering the response cards....
Ok, this may take long depending on how many response cards you might be getting back, but here is are a few ideas.
Do youy response cards have your address on a label? Can you put a small number on that in the corner?--If youraddress is preprinted this won't work.
What about buying small fancy (nice font) stickers with numbers that go with your theme? You can place it on the front of the postcard so that there is no mistaking what the number stands for
I recently had to send away a postcard response and the bride wrote in a number in the corner. It wasn't neat, but it got the job done. In the end, who cares because they get sent back to you anyway.
Finally, maybe you can get nice really small return labels from Staples or Michales and type the last name of the person and stick them on there somewhere like the bottom front?--This could take you a whike if you have a lot and may not be an option.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all your suggestions!
My response card is actually part of a preforated card- the top is the reception info, the bottom is the RSVP. So my address will be pre-printed on the back of the RSVP card.
Why do I think I've heard of some pens that are invisble to readers or something? and you just put it under a light and you can see it? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I put a teeny tiny number in the top corner on the back of each card.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I ordered a UV light pen that is a pen on one side and a little blue light on the other for $10 online. It's awesome! You can't see the number without turning on the lightbulb so none of your guests will be able to see if they're number 2 or 22
Search online. Good Luck!

Mine are postcards too. I'm going to put it on the back. I figure they'll just think it's a post office mark.

I love this idea. If you find the site, will you please post it?

I would suggest numbering the back of the postcard in a corner.

I was going to suggest invisible ink also-- I think that is the best solution
Or if you are going to put stamps on the postcards (if they aren't premarked) then you can put a number under the stamp-- peel it off when you receive it? Or would the number just peel off with the stamp?

Re: Numbering the response cards....
I am going to put in pencil very lightly on the back on the RVSP in the corner ... most guests don't even look at the back of the rsvp so im sure noone will know it is there except you.
