You can become an LPN which takes less than 2 years to complete. You can also become an RN by either getting your associates which takes about 2 years or getting your bachelors which requires 4 yrs of schooling. I got my bachelors in nursing and will be going back to school next year for my masters. I did a 3 mth nursing externship the summer before my senior year working in labor & delivery. It was amazing and fun. I saw alot of deliveries and c-sections. Currently, I'm working on a pediatric unit. You have patients ranging from newborn to 19 years of age. eventually I'll probably go back to L&D. That's the beauty of nursing, you can always change fields for new experience or if you just want a change. HTH!

Look into diff. facilities also, bc I know alot of placing pay for some or all of your schooling, which can be very helpful.

Im in LPN school right now and its taking me exactly 1 year......you are somewhat limited to what places will hire you as an LPN though. I think it would be difficult to get a position in labor and delivery as an LPN. I am going back to school after I am finished with my LPN for my RN for this very reason!

RN schools are much more difficult to get into, so where I live if you have your LPN already its easier to get into RN school. It will take me about 1 more year to get my RN(I have all my prereqs done)

You could apply to several different programs and see which one you get into!!!!! After being on the waitlist at my community college for 2 years that when I decided to get my LPN first. Good Luck!!!!

I am actually waiting to get into the RN program at Suffolk County Community College. If you do the day program it will take 2 years to finish. If you do the night program it will take 3 years. It is very hard to get into but so worth it. In my school there are 4 or 5 classes you have to take before you apply to get in SO11, PC11, BY30, BY32 & EG11 (if you didn't take them already). Then there is a whole bunch to take after. Those 4 classes you need at least a B if you get lower you should just withdraw and take it over. I have a 3.5 average and I am praying I get in. Please keep your fingers crossed for me I find out in April.

If you girls have any questions just ask. I also have some friends in the programs so I can find out whatever you want to know.
