I feel like I’m young and I should be working in a place where there is room for advancement – not really a “dead end” kind of job.
THIS ^^^^
Dont do the same mistake I did... I took the wrong job for $ now i am in a place with no room for advancement...

Re: HELP!
Not a lawyer, but I would probably recommend the smaller firm. I've worked in two small companies in the past, and the experience I gained from there is unexplainable. You get to wear many different hats, get to deal w/ a lot of different situations than when I worked in more of a larger/corporate company. Especially if you can handle a minor pay cut for now by going to the smaller company, I'd definately do it.
Just one thing I would look into is job security - FH worked in a really small company before and the security really wasn't there due to the economy.

Re: HELP!
i think the second option sounds like a much better opportunity for you. the potential for advancement is so important, even if it means taking a bit of a pay cut up front. the way you described the two jobs, it sounds like you're leaning towards the second option - i would go for it!
good luck!!

this is the only thing I'd be worried about witht he smaller firm.. if for some reason things go bad, you're the first on the chopping block as the new girl...
I work for a larger company now than I did just before but it's more $$ and more room for advancement due to the fact that the next higher up at the small place was the CEO of the company.
How long has the larger company been in business, is it possible that the job security would diminish after the restructuring? Will having this job help you get a job at another place in the future if you're there for a long time...??

Im very happy for you doll !!
The only way I would stay at my current job is if i LOVED going to work everyday. That seems like the only risk you may have to take here.. taking the new job and hating it. On the other side of that, comfort can hold you back from better things.
It sounds like you have a much brighter future at the new place.. I would go for it. And hey, you will have your own office so you can play with us !! LOL

Re: HELP!
second option sounds better. you need room to grow and sometimes smaller places are better. i do not work in a law firm setting but do work got a very large company and they keep 'restructuring'. 20% last year and rumor is another 10% in Jan. Smaller settings only have enough staff as they need and that hopefully wouldnt be a concern. looking short term i am sure the one with more money sounds better but think about your future

the part i'm worried about is hating it - i'm so bad at decisions!
Welllllllll I think it is definitely worth a chance. It may bug you more to never know what COULD have happened for you, ya know???

Re: HELP!
Lisa, what about the type of work you'd be doing? Are you going to get more varied experience at the smaller place? What's going to look btter on your resume later if/when you want to do something else?

i agree with going with a smaller firm. I'm not a lawyer either but I'm glad that when I made my decision, that I went to a smaller firm b/c i know that I have more experience/exposure than going to a larger firm. Growth and advancement is so key especially when you're young and this is the time to do it! good luck with your choice!

this is how i feel too
the firm has been around for like 20 years, but moved to this location like 5 years ago so i think they're pretty stable. the type of law is pretty unique too.
2nd option is sounding better based on the circumstances....

Re: HELP!
i'd go w the 2nd option, but..I'd check into the company more. how stable do they look financially. How respected are they in their own industry? How long have they been around?
