WOW

What they are doing is terribly unfair but that's how some families operate -- do things my way or I will disown you.

I don't know the whole story but it may be time for him to move out of his parents house. He was not obligated to run to them and tell them that he upgraded your ring -- unless they are footing the bill and it doesn't seem that way or he wouldn't be using HIS savings to pay for things. He's also not a little boy who needs to run to mommy and daddy for approval on every little thing.

This is not about him choosing you over them (or them over you). This is about him standing up for himself -- he has the right to decide the course of his own life and they should not be trying to emotionally blackmail him. He needs to be his own man and it seems like they're emasculating him.

Be prepared -- he may back down. It's really hard to just walk away from your family of origin -- could you do it? I know I couldn't. But then my family isn't stupid enough to make ultimatums like that.

Or

He might walk away from his family and choose you. He will need you more than ever. Just make sure it is truly his decision or he will resent you somewhere down the line.

I say -- for now -- attend the RD for the sister (it's not her fault they did this) and put on a brave face because it is possible that this will blow over. Maybe they will take back what they said.

I wish you lots of luck!
Sorry you're going thru this

Re: NWR

Thanks ladies! I don't know where we are going to go from here. He seems insistent that he wants to go thru with the wedding. I'm just hoping his father comes around.
