NWR: A little embarrassing

Original post by lori7570

Ok so I'll say it...I have IBS...

Anyone else dealing (or should I say suffering) with this? My doc is reluctant to prescribe medications and wants me to change my diet (whihc is already blah). Anyone have any OTC remedies?

Have you tried a gluten-free diet?

No I haven't what would that consist of?

Click this link you can read up on it - if nothing else is working you may want to give it a try...

Re: NWR: A little embarrassing

i was on a gluten free diet for years, and finally couldnt handle it any more .. usually its given to individuals with celiac disease, which is an inability to process gluten..they use the diet to help with a lot of other gi problems as well though, because the human body has a naturally difficult time processing gluten.

gluten is found in almost all grains, and therefore almost all foods, so if you're going to adhere to the diet you have to be VERY careful about what you eat

I would have to shoot down that theory because if this was true...I would be thin like a model by now!! Everything irratates my stomach and I spend more time in the bathroom than not and I dont lose a pound!!

Feel better honey!!! Hope you figure out what helps soon!

FH has it...he's in denial about it but he has pinpointed what triggers it and knows what to stay away from. I think the food journal is a good idea!

mom has it and SIL's mom has it so i always hear the most interesting convos when they are together.

coconut flakes are BIG helper...just add them into foods. Anything with Fennel is also a plus (takes a little while to get used to the flavor (i'm thinking fennel tea) but helps and organic stuff!!

feel better :)

I had it for years. At least I thought. Finally I got a second opinion. He thought it was my BC pills. My GYN laughed but I was so desperate I would give up anything to make it stop.

I went off the pill and 3 months later, the IBS disappeared.

Been 2 years now and I am fine!

I have since read there IS a correlation to BC pills and IBS. I could have tried other ones but I decided just to go off. If you need to be on them, you can just try different ones.

i know a family member that has it...some trigger foods are acidic foods (OJ, tomatoes, LEMONS, LIMES, etc)..so try to stay away from acidics and spicey foods

oh, and i hear fish oil may be good..but i would ask your doc b4 taking any vitamin/mineral supplements...
