NWR - A little help from my LIWer's

Hi Girls,
So the hubby and I are going to start to expand our house hunting options from brooklyn to LI. Now the only thing is I know NOTHING about LI...can anyone give me some advice on what neighborhoods/school districts are good?? That is my main concern when looking.
xoxo

i think it also depends alot on your price range. i went to private school but some of the good school districts in Nassau that come to mind are Jericho, Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset, Herricks, etc... and im sure there are plenty of others! im sure there is a website that might rank them but im not at the point to house hunt yet.

Good luck!

I like Hicksville because it's so central to everything and the taxes are cheap when compared to other places in L.I. Close to malls and all expressways.

I grew up in Great Neck and the schools are amazing, but it's so expensive there, I would imagine it would be difficult for first-time buyers to get into the neighborhood. My mom moved out as soon as my brother and I were done with high school.

Good luck with your search!

I went to catholic school so I may not be much help but I have friends who are teachers and the good school districts would be Oceanside, Long Beach, Lynbrook.

FH and I bought a house in Oceanside a few months ago, so far we love it! and the schools are supposed to be very good too!

I grew up in Oceanside. Its a good area.

It depends where in Nassau you want to live, price range and also if you work in the city you may want to look at towns that are on LIRR lines that run into the various towns.

Re: NWR - A little help from my LIWer's

this has the potential to blow up, but ill try to do my best to answer your question:

some of the best schools are:

great neck
manhasset
roslyn
port washington
albertson (wheatley)
bellmore-merrick
jericho
rockville centre

im leaving some off, but these are all amazing districts-also very expensive

some more mid-class, still with good schools:

east meadow
wantagh
new hyde park
floral park
oceanside
massapequa

im a teacher, so over time you learn what schools are better than others..

if you go on mlsli.com they have profiles for every town and some links to school websites and stuff like that -- i can't be of much help bc we just started our search too, but that's a good place to start! good luck!

I went to Massapequa and my FH and I just bought a house in Wantagh. Both are good school districts and are actually affordable for first time buyers.

FH & I both went to East Meadow school district...He's from East Meadow and I live in westbury and went to Clarke High School. Good music & art department, in addition to the basics.
