NWR: A man and His mother

Do you think the way a guy treats his mother is a good indication of how he'll treat you down the line?

Absolutely, my mom always said to me a man that is good son.... will be a good husband and father.

Without a doubt.

Yes and no... Generally speaking I would say yes, a good man is good to his mother however, i've seen situations where a man did not treat his mother well but due to a horrible relationship with the mother.. and in that situation the person is a GREAT husband and an even better father.

maybe.

FH doesn't get a long w/his mother. And i sometimes see it trickle down into our relationship. Or maybe my opinion of how he should be/things he should do that he doesn't. Not sure if that's b/c of his relationship with her and not having a mother around/ wife figure w/his dad.

For me... YES! My D-BAG ex treated his mother like ehhhh nothing special... And looking back, I realize he treated me the same way. DH treats his mother like gold, he loves her so much. ME TOO!!!

100%. Actually it's an indication of how he treats women in general. Also, the way his father acts towards his mother is also another good indicator of how he will tend to treat women.

Definitely, either that or he will still treat his mom a little better and you will be a close second. lol

if he treats his mother good that should be a good indication but it isnt always the case my ex fiance treated his mother like gold and was not so nice to me. eventually his mother called off our wedding

DEFINITELY

Ive seen a relationship where the son and mother do not have a great relationship b/c of the mom AND he is still bad to the women in his life..

Re: NWR: A man and His mother

It depends.

DH's mom is a nasty, terrible woman. In turn, he has decided that the best thing he can do is keep her at arm's length. He has to hang up on her at times because of the crazy, nasty things she says. He goes for lengths of time without talking to her at all.

I guess if I was a C U Next Tuesday like she is, then I'd deserve to be treated like that by DH.

Re: NWR: A man and His mother

Ughhh this question has bothered me for the past year... I have ALWAYS felt that its true, the way a man respects his mother, and the way his father treats his mother usually is a good indicator on how he will treat you.

FH treats me like a queen, but is estanged from his mother, apparently she's this terrible person but I've never even met her, he hasn't spoken to her in like 3 years. FFIL is a great guy and a great husband right now... but he's on his 5th wife (this one is for good) and apparently was a terrible husband while FH was growing up. I've told him before that this scares me, that he'll one day mimic how terrible his father was, and he got really serious and told me that he would NEVER be like his father, and the reason he believes so much in marriage is he wants to be what he didn't have while he was growing up.

In turn... I agree with the statement, but i also think you have to consider the parents....

Re: NWR: A man and His mother

it depends on if I am just like his mother. Some times like other girls said, if mom is nutso then he will have to react to her. If overall they have a good relationship then yes you should think that is how he is going to be

But then you get the guys that are mamas boys and treat her like gold and cant cut the cord, but they dont do that with their girls. they keep the girls at arms length and are so so with them when it comes to advice.

overall i think you should be more worried how he treats you then how he treasts anyone else

haha FDNY I totally agree... there is the guy that respects his mother... and then the one that is 'attached' ... I don't think I could handle the second, as FH's sister (10 years older) has a hard time letting go....

No...

ETA: its a completely different type of relationship... even if Shaun had a great relationship with his mom.... i would never in a million years expect to be treated the way he treats his mother...

Re: NWR: A man and His mother

Not it my DH's case. His mother basically abandoned him when he needed her the most (like age 18 or so), so their relationship has gone from bad to worse over the years. And still, he treats me like a princess and he shows my mom sooooooo much respect and love.
I guess it depends on the man.
