Today is my first day taking it and I am really excited and nervous at the same time.
My face is no where near severe acne. Right now I have small bumps (the size of blackheads) which are the color of my skin, but they annoy me!
It looks horrible! I have been going to the same dermatologist for years, so has my mom and my aunt. So he told me to get on accutane to help clear up my skin in the hopes of it not coming back.
He said any other derm would NOT have prescribed that for me, however, being that he knows my family background and he knows that I have a wedding next year he is doing what he thinks is best! I trust him! He has always done right by me, my mom and my aunt. My aunt was actually on it and her face is really clear now.
If anyone has been on this, please tell what you experienced.
TIA

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
my brother took this about 5 years ago when he was a teenager... he had really bad acne.. it helped tremendously and now his face is normal. I think the only risk is you just have to monitor your blood pressure and make sure not to get pregnant or anything, but it did work.

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
Thank you for your feedback! Yes the derm has reminded me over and over not to get PG! It's all over the book I had to read and all over the box the pills come in!

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
i took it when i was 15-16 (before all the warnings about depression)
my face just dried out A LOT!! my saving grace (as gross as this sounds) was to put vaseline on my face out night.. it was like a moisture seal so my face wouldn't peel in the morning
that's the worst side effect i had, my face was really really really dry..
..and i became addicted to chapstick
P.S. it DID work!

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
I think I've been on any face meds possible. Accutane is a pretty horrible/severe drug. make sure u dont drink alcohol, or very very little of it - it effects ur liver. also my derm at that time had to see me every month and took a blood sample each time, to monitor levels. all my acne came back after about 3-4 years. then I went on something else that after going off it all came back within a year. now I am on something else and it helped a lot (actually need to make an appt w/my Dr - I really like her) and I also use topical ratin-a for nite, which is great and something else for the day that for the life of me I cannot remember the name

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
My derm told me the reason this is happening is because I have EXTREMELY oily skin! But it's too oily and it is clogging up my pores and that's what is causing these stupid bumps!
So I've heard Regy-K! Before fully agreeing to take accutane, I was very scared and a little depressed, I was so lost and didn't know what to do! I do have to go every mth to take my blood. Good thing for me I NEVER EVER drink! LOL Not even wine, I'm such a baby, I know! LOL But I just don't have any interest in drinking, so I guess that part will be good for me!
Again thanks for all of your feedback! Really appreciate it!

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
i have been told its from my makeup...but im not sure if im buying that...lol.
i really dont have oily skin, so idk...but its just annoyingggggg
honestly, i think the best thing for me is extractions!! the first derm i went to said that is not good...meanwhile, the retin-a doesnt make the bumps go away...it just prevents new ones from forming..
i dont know if accutane will make the old ones go away...so maybe ask your doctor too.

The accutane is suppose to take away EVERYTHING even the scars! So I'm really hoping it works!
Last night after I got of the shower, I made FH take pics of my face and my back (I know...TMI...LOL) and I was going through them I was like GROSS!!!!!

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR ON BIRTH CONTROL WHILE BEING ON ACCUTANE!!!! its a miracle drug but its very dangerous......my Dr tried to prescribe it to me but she said only if i felt comfortable with it..she said theyre were other options. Accutane is usually used for more severe cases of acne..like the ones that hurts to look at them...im glad your excited but just be wary.

I know! I was very scared about all the things I heard! It is very important to me to become a mom so I was very very scared! However, I don't plan on becoming PG anytime soon especially with the wedding coming up! So this is also why he thought it would be a good time to be on it! I will make sure that I am protected at all times!!!! Thank you for the warning though! I appreciate it!

Re: NWR: Accutane (acne meds)
I was on accutane earlier this year but i had to stop bc i was have major headaches. For the 2 months i was on it i was in love with it.
You do get extremely dry so at night i was putting on aquaphor all over my face. Def don't get tanning and make sure if you have to go on other meds for any reason u tell them ur on this med.
