I am a terrible sleeper too...i decided to go on ambien to get my sleep schedule back on track. I only took it for a few days until my sleep schedule was normal and then went off it. If I throw off my sleep schedule again I take it again for a few days and am back to normal. I was reluctant to take meds but if you can exercise self control they really work

Also don't work out right before bed or do too much heavy thinking (aka school work) because then your mind will be running all night

Sounds silly, but watch your sugar/carb intake. As long as I stay away from refined sugar and starch, I sleep better!! It's always been that way for me.....pay close attention to your eating habits when you can't sleep...

FH has the same problem. some night he never comes to bed & is awake for 24 hours. then will go to sleep at 9AM & get his days & nights confused.

i tell him its because he is not doing enough physical activity to burn off his energy. when he has a full days work (doing construction with my dad) he sleeps like a baby.

i don't know what your schedule is like but maybe adding in more physical activity will help you be tired at night.

i am also a firm believer that people only need X number of hours of sleep. for instance i need 7 and a half hours of sleep every night. so i stick to a very strict sleep schedule. i am in bed by 10:30PM & out of bed by 6:00AM Sunday -Thursday no matter what. Friday & Saturdays i change it up if we have plans but make sure i only get 7 and a half hours of sleep.

think back to sunday night & figure out how many hours you slept & try that.

Re: NWR: ADVICE NEEDED!!!

Some nights when I get like that I take an all natural sleeping pill called midnite...It really helps me. The pill is nice bc you can take it, sleep for 4 hours and then wake up and not be all 'sleeping pill groggy effect'. When I take it, it usually helps me fall asleep within a half hour and I can sleep straight through the night.

Re: NWR: ADVICE NEEDED!!!

i have had major issues sleeping for years as well....i sleep about 4-5 hours a night if I am lucky...I am always exhausted. Lately, I have majorly cut down on caffeine intake and watch what i eat...it has helped a little but I am still not sleeping that well. If you try a few things and its not working I would suggest maybe talking to your doctor..

It usually takes about 5 days to get my sleep schedule back to normal...

Usually I am ok for about a month..of course some things trigger me to not sleep like being sick or drinking too much-of course do NOT take any pills if you had more than one drink that day

From ambien I always wake up refreshed if I give myself 7-8 hours to sleep. If you only give yourself 5-6 hours though you may wake up groggy

Re: NWR: ADVICE NEEDED!!!

yup..

- don't eat or drink anything with sugar/caffiene for 4 hours before hand

- maybe take a hot shower or bath before bed

-try not to watch tv or be on the comp an hour before u go to sleep.

If you don't want to take meds maybe you can go for a a sleep study to see what's going on. My mom just had one and turns out she didn't sleep cuz she was hooked up to lots of stuff but you are in a room (hotel set up) by urself and it's obv overnight. Wouldn't be my first choice but it's an option.

Also, Sleepytime tea works!!! It's natural...made by Celestial Seasonings.

Also don't do anything in your bed but sleeping...I am a bad perp of this, but supposedly if you only use your bed for sleep then once you get in it your body automatically goes through the cycles.

Also I've heard good things about taking melatonin...you can get it in any health food store.
