NWR: AHHHHHH!!!!

NWR: AHHHHHH!!!!

My car completely died last night... out of nowhere!!! It was running fine all night and then I stop by FH's apartment on my way home (at like 11:30PM) and when I go to leave, turn the key and NOTHING happened... complete silence ... and it was just running 10 minutes before!!!!

Long story short, we end up jumping it; it starts up fine. I let it idle for like 20 minutes while I'm on the phone with my mom. Finally go to leave and as I'm backing out of the driveway, it dies again!!!!!

So now it's sitting dead in FH's driveway. I'm hoping it's just the battery but FH and my dad say it could be worse - possibly the alternator... Sigh I know so little about car engines. I can't afford any major repairs right now!!! I was really hoping this car would have lasted me until after the wedding... It's been so good to me - I've had it for 6 years (and got it used at $5k).

AHHHHH!!! so stressed about money!!!! sorry - just needed to vent....

Re: NWR: AHHHHHH!!!!

thats so weird..i was on my way home from fh's house the other night at 10:30 pm and i stopped at a stop sign and when i went to go, my car just died. literally just shut off..luckily the guy who lives on the corner helped push me out of the middle of the intersection! fh was on his way to work (he's a nurse and works overnight) and he had to come aaall the way back and pick me up. my dad and brother had to tow my car to the mechanic last night, which luckily is right next door to my job, so hopefully it will be done today. but, trust me, i know how you feel. dont stress about it, it'll work out.

Don't worry, alternators are not that expensive (100-300$ so don't get ripped off!). Also did your FH or father check the timing belt?

argh I feel you! I gave my car to my dad after his died so FH and I are sharing his car since we work together. Lately it's been one problem after another and we are just PRAYING it lasts until after the wedding.

I hope it's nothing major! I know nothing about cars as well.

Thanks for the support ladies!

FH and I are going to replace the battery after work today... hoping that will fix the problem. If not, we'll go from there and I'll either have my dad look at it (he knows cars fairly well) or I'll bring it to a mechanic.

Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Same thing was happening to my car about a year ago, it was the alternator. Stupid thing cost me 300 to fix.

I wouldn't bother buying a battery. If its the alternator, the new battery is gonna be dead too...and that can happen as you're driving on the expressway. Take it somewhere and just ask if they can check the alternator for you.
