So, my mom and I had been planning to go on a cruise to Alaska leaving from Vancouver on 9/7/13. When I had tried to book it over a month ago, I realized that my mom's passport was expired. She is a citizen of Jamaica, which complicated things. So, we had to start all over, going into the city to the consulate, to apply for a new passport...and they sent everything to Jamaica for processing. I'm not sure if everyone is familiar with 'island time,' but it's slow as sh!t. Lol. They told us the passport would take 6 - 8 weeks, which would have meant we'd be booking in August--at best. And last minute flights are so expensive! So, I have been so anxious that the passport wouldn't come in time for us to still go at all. Well, my mom just called and the passport came today! I am so excited and relieved! Going to book everything today--except the excursions. My parents had gone to Alaska years ago and loved it. So, I'm going to let my mom suggest what we should do and see. But, I just had to share this because I was literally jumping up and down when she called me. My brother is already booked on the same cruise, so it will be the first 'family vacation' without my dad. It means so much to me to be able to to do this. I wish my FH could come too, but he has to work...and take care of our dog & cat. He's not too upset about missing it since we get to take a honeymoon some time next year. This news has just made my day! Hope everyone else is having a happy Tuesday! :)

Seriously the best vacation I've ever been on. I'm not even saying it because we got engaged there. It's just seriously a breath taking place!! Congrats! You're going to loooove it!!

An Alaskan cruise is definitely on my future vacation list! I've been to Vancouver and it's one of my favorite cities. If you have time before the cruise I definitely suggest checking out that city. Also, look at Cathay Pacific for flights. It's an Asian airline and the service on their flights are amazing. In coach I got a menu to pick out my dinner! You can get a direct flight into Vancouver from JFK for a reasonable price!

@Roseann--Alaska has been on my bucket list for the last decade or so. I can't wait to see the glaciers! And we're doing a balcony room, so hopefully we can sit outside and take pics.
@GoingToBoyle--Thanks so much for the tips! I've booked international trips for my boss with Cathay and he loved the service. I've only ever been to Toronto and Niagara before, so I'm hoping to fly into Vancouver a day early so we can check it out.

I AM SOOOOOO JEALOUS!!! FH & I wanted to go their for our honeymoon but the time of year we are getting married wouldn't allow it We are hoping we can take it for an anniversary trip and just 'postpone' it to the season since we are getting married in January and they don't run that cruise then.

Adam's grandma had gone on an Alaska cruise back in her day, and she still says that it was the best vacation she ever went on. Adam and I have been considering it as a honeymoon option as well. So jealous!

I love cruises! And thank goodness the Passport got done on time, That's seriously a big Panic , which is why I'm renewing mine soon, I have this fear of not getting it done it time for my honeymoon lol

Thanks everyone! I booked everything last night. All the balcony and mini-suite rooms were sold out, but we were able to get an ocean view room with a discount since my mom has cruised on Princess before. I am so psyched--8 weeks to go!

Princess--this will be my first time cruising with them. I've only gone on Norwegian and Carnival in the past. Because my brother booked it first and we wanted to be on the same ship as him, our departure and arrival is a little less than ideal. Instead of going round trip from Seattle, we're flying to Vancouver and leaving from there. Then the cruise ends in Wittier, Alaska, so we fly home from Anchorage. It's going to mean longer flights and be more expensive this way, but he is staying for 2 extra weeks after the cruise to explore other parts of Alaska, so it was best for him if a little harder on us...he's lucky we love him! Lol.
