i dont think your wrong in feeling that way. unless she specifically told u when u were hired that you would be doing the babysitting, housekeeping and random errands then i dont think its fair that she is taking advantage of you being there to do all of her chores and what not. Maybe you should talk to her about the your role and set some boundries. good luck!

Youre not wrong at all! I worked as a nanny during the summers while i was in college. I watched 4 kids ranging from ages 5-13. I was responsible for driving the 4 kids to all of their activities each day (in my car and always paid for my own gas.) I cooked, i watched their friends each day also for 8 dollars an hour. She then asked me to do laundry and cleaning and i finally said absolutely not. I quit. I couldnt take it. Mom was smug, took advantage of me and it just wasn't worth it! You either need more money or for them to realize that you are solely there to watch your kids! I am sorry you are dealing with this! It's such a pain!

No you are CLEARLY not in the wrong. She is not treating you as a babysitter she is treating you as HER slave.
Honestly I would give the kids a big hug tell them you love them and will always be thinking of them then F ucking QUIT! oh and tell the bi tch to kiss my a$$ before I walked out her door.

No. Can you negotiate for more money?
'I was hired to watch KidA and KidB. If you need me to _________, I'd be happy to help out, but I'd like to be compensated for it.'
'My car doesn't have a mirror. I'd hate to get into an accident with the children/while I'm working for you.'
'I don't have a permit for the train station. I'd hate for you to have to reimburse me for a ticket.'

Oh Jen!! I hate to say it but she is totally taking advantage of you. She is not only treating you like a babysitter but also a housekeeper/nanny. Is she the type of person you can sit down and talk to about this. Maybe tell her that you don mind doing these errands every now and then for her but that you feel its happening more often.
Why do you feel like you are committed to her till the end of the semester? If you want to leave give tell her you got that freelance job and give her 2 weeks notice to find someone else.
i am sorry people **** and you are going through this

no your not wrong. I don't know if I would put up with that honestly. Maybe you can have a conversation about what is in your job description and what is not (i.e., getting mom water etc..).
I was lucky to work at an office on campus while working toward my masters... (also 10 an hour and they paid for 6 of my credits).
I am not sure what degree your going for, but i have several friends who tutored for like 20 an hour while working toward their bachelors.
And i am sure you love the kids, sorry about your bad experience w/ mom :(

I feel like she is taking advantage of you too. You shouldn't have to get her water. If the kids asked for water, that would be different. You were hired to watch the kids not be her servant. I would try to talk to her about it nicely and if you don't get anywhere, just quit----unless you really need the money and can't find anything else.

You are def. being taking advantage of, sorry . I understand it will be hard to say something but I think you need to. You have a right to be treated fairly.

Holy crap! Is her name Linda? I had a mother's helper/babysitting job when I was 13 that reminds me of this story. I really feel for you. That woman had me doing so much stuff around the house that I barely had time for the kid. At 13, I was doing the dishes (she saved me her Thanksgiving dishes for 3 days!), laundry, dusting, picking up toys, putting up and taking down her christmas tree by myself and balancing her check book. Oh and the kicker........I made $3 an hour!

I don't thin you are wrong at all!!! Sounds like you are her babysitter / personal assistant / gofer!!!! If she want you to be all of that you should be getting $50/hour! Plus gas for your car - hell she should pay to fix your mirror!
sounds like she is totally taking advantage of you - you need to talk to her and tell her that you need more money for all that you do, or tell her that your responsibility is for you to take care of her children NOT get he a glass of water when she asks!

Omg, you are right to feel the way you do. I can't believe she's taking advantage of your kindness like that.

definitely taking advantage of you. Put your foot down now before she starts adding more things 'to do' in your already expanded job description..I would just flat out tell her you are arriving at X time to watch the kids and you have other responsibilities that prevent you from doing anything else other than just be at her house from X time to Y time, JUST babysitting the kids.
Thats it. If she doesn't get the message, then I think you will have a difficult decision to make..
Sorry..

you are not wrong. this isn't what you were hired for.
i was in a position like that before and had to peace out.
you need to talk to her because it will only get worse from here. if you let her get away with it she will take it as far as she can.
