NWR-Another ipod question

NWR-Another ipod question

I went to BestBuy today to look at the ipod nano 4GB and ipod 30GB (the photo one) and the salesguy tried to talk me into their 'warranty package' which is for 3 years and I think $40 or $50. Not the thing is every freakin' time I go to best buy they try to sell me that warranty thing so I know that's their whole shtick but I am so uneducated about ipods!
He claimed that the ipod 1 year warranty doesn't cover the screen burning out or the rechargeable batteries, both of which are expensive to replace. Are these things that actually happen with ipods? is it worth it to buy the warranty? tia!

I saw either on the news or in the paper that the store warranties are a money making ploy for the stores and not worth it!

i def think you should get the extended warranty!! 50 bucks for 3 years I think that's a good buy.

I dunno, by the time something happens with your battery, you will probably want the next generation of the ipod anyway.

also, i got notice of some type of class action lawsuit regarding the battery. i didn't buy any extended warranty but it says i can get $25 if my battery burns out (i barely read the thing but i think that is what it was all about).

oh, and it really helped me to buy guidebooks (Ipod for dummies!!! and Ipod, the Missing Manual) because the instructions that come with it don't go over all the features!

Re: NWR-Another ipod question

I think that the extended warranties are TOTALLY worth it.

I was talking to a lady in Best Buy the other day because my mom just bought an ipod for my Bro for christmas. Anyway, she told me that she had an ipod and something happened to it and she didn't have a warranty on it so it was worthless. I would rather spend another $50 or so dollars for a warranty than having to buy a whole new ipod for $300 or $400 that's just my opinion.

Re: NWR-Another ipod question

we've had almost every version of iPod since the beginning, and we have never had a screen burn out, and the first battery to go just happened, on that first one....OVER 3 years. Don't buy the warranty, if there are any problems you bring it to the apple store and they will help you much more than best buy ever would (don't get me wrong I love Best Buy, but apple's customer service rocks!)

I have had an ipod mini for a year, and no problems. I ordered it through Apple, and I don't remember them offering a warranty. FH has has 2 ipods and never a problem. For the ipod, I don't think its worth it. In three years there will be something new that you will want instead.

I did buy a warranty on my laptop, I had so many issues with my old one.

Also if you are a teacher, you get a discount. On the ipod 30gig, I got $30 off at the apple store

I've had my iPod for over a year. The screen and the battery are fine. I wouldn't bother with the extended warrenty. I would invest a couple of dollars in a nice skin - the iPod scratches pretty easily.

Iwas at the Apple store this weekend and would recommend the warranty. I didn't buy one on my ipod or my FH bc he thinks its also a money making scheme - the reality is the apple doesn't have great customer service. After one courtesy phone call about anything you get charged. Warranty is a good idea. I also vow never to buy anothe ipod product bc you need to pay 50 bucks for customer service!

I think that if it is a scam, of well. At least you are covered if anything happens to it. 50 bucks for three years isnt that bad IMO. I bought FH a TV last year for Christmas at best buy and I bought the warranty. It made me feel more comfortable

Re: NWR-Another ipod question

i never believed in their warranties until....

my digital camera broke...it couldnt be fixed i had a replacement plan and they replaced it on the spot

then last yr my camcorder stopped working.i took it in and they shipped it out and it came back to my house fixed

ever since those 2 problems i ALWAYS get their warranty.

I used to think is was hall bull poop.

but i am all for them

ok, that helped me with my decision! Now it's only $20 difference between the 2
Do I just need my ID?

Re: NWR-Another ipod question

I had to use my warranty on my iPod, but luckily it was within the 1st year, so it was covered by Apple automatically. The whole thing just crashed. They replaced it without a problem, but I ended up losing 1300 songs in the process with the new one!!! It's been frustrating to the point where after this one, I will go in another direction for an mp3 player.

That, and iTunes has this annoying thing of renaming all of your music files to some insane 4 letter gibberish.
