NWR: another Q for people with cats

NWR: another Q for people with cats

Do you ever take your cats with you when you go places? FHs brother has 2 small dogs and brings them to his parents house all the time, partly bc he cant leave them alone all day.

We're going to FH's parents house for dinner tonight and she asked if we can bring our cats. Our immediate reaction was no, but now FH is wondering if it would be OK to bring them. FBIL wont be there (so no dogs) and they enjoy the cat carrier.

Would we need to bring a makeshift litter box? food? water? We'd prob be gone about 4 hours.

I just spoke to FH again and he doesn't think we should since we'd like to be able to run some errands on the way there, but I'm still curious about the future.

Anyone?

ive never really taken them anywhere except to the vet and to fh's parents when we went away for a weekend...but if u do take them i would def bring a litter box...if u feed them before they go they should be fine on food..if not i would bring that too

Cats are not like dogs at all. You do not need to take them anywhere. A dog needs to be taken care of more then a cat....cats can take care of themselves and don't mind being left alone. I have had 2 cats for the past 18 yrs and the only place they go is to the vet. I wouldn't take them with you. Just my opinion.

Oh, I know they can stay by themselves fine at home. FILs just wanted to play with them. They'd probably be fine (we brought them over once when we first got them) and they love being in their pet carrier, but it's probably better for FILs to just come here another time..

oh ok....if they enjoy going in their carriers then that makes it much easier....my cats hate it....they take skin off when we try and get them in there. I think the FILS can come over and play with them.....may be better since the cats are in their own environment.

FH and I want to get a puppy if we can find a place that allows pets...which most dont, but i know ill be taking him everywhere with me. It's hard to leave any animal at home alone...even if it is for a short period of time.

I've never taken my cat anywhere (except to the vet, of course) I would hate to leave her in a carrier and would never take the chance of letting her out and have her run away. I think cats like to be in their own house and the enviroment they are used to anyway.

it depends on the cat.
i know people who take their cat everywhere. they hang out in the car without being in a carrier and are just like dogs.

one of my cats would tear my face off if i tried to take her anywhere. she likes being home.

cats like to mark their territory, they hide when they get nervous, and people forgot they are around and have a tendency to leave doors open if they are not a 'cat home'

i wouldn't take my cats with me to my parents house, but they all used to live at my FMIL's so i would take them there for a visit.
