i will be graduating with my BS in Accounting in June. i have told my FH atleast 100 times that i am non-CPA. well 99 times he said thats fine. yesterday my sisters friend was over helping me with auditing homework. he was saying how he is studying for the CPA exam & FH decided to start a whole argument about how he doesn't understand why i am non-CPA.
background info: i will be 25 when i graduate college. i will have been in college for 7 years. i am getting married a year after graduation. i don't have a 3.8 GPA like all the other CPA degree people do & i am the worlds worst test taker. i have explained to FH a million times that a non-CPA can get a job just as easily, you just don't file taxes. btw i hate doing taxes!!! most importantly i don't want that life style. i want to have children within a year of getting married & that wont be possible.
so anyone who also has a non-CPA degree can you help by giving me job suggestions??
TIA

my boss is a cpa. you need to have 2 years experience to receive your cpa but you can sit for the exam right after graduation which is what i'm going to be doing shortly.

Re: NWR- any accountants here?
I am a non-cpa with an MBA. So far I've never had a problem getting a job and I get paid just as much as CPA's. If I can help with anything, FM me.

Re: NWR- any accountants here?
Hate to rain on your parade, BUT huge mistake. TAKE THE CPA EXAM!!! It's not as bad as you think especially being that you can break it up into 4 parts AND you have 18 months to complete all 4 parts. I work for a Big 4 firm who now requires you to have a valid credential (i.e. CPA) to get promoted past senior associate. That being said, do you really want to limit yourself to being stuck as a Senior Associate for the rest of your life?? As someone else mentioned, starting Aug. 09' you will need a masters degree (150 cr) to sit for the exam so apply for the NTS ASAP!!! Also, you are incorrect in stating that you only need a CPA to sign a return. You actually do NOT need a CPA to sign a return. You need a CPA to sign off on audits/ represent a client before the IRS. My advice - do it now while you're in the studying mode. Once you start working, you won't have time - ESPECIALLY if you plan on working at a Big 4 firm - TRUST ME!! My first two years were INSANE. I've been at a Big 4 four years now, and actually find it very rewarding... in many ways. Not going to lie... you will put your dues in the first 2 years. But if you're good, you will be rewarded! And, you will get flexibility here like no other place when you decide to have kids.... Many women here are on a flex-schedule and work 3 days a week... Something else to keep in mind. FM me if you have any q's, etc.... I'd be happy to answer them!

Re: NWR- any accountants here?
To further expand on the above reply - If you want to work for a Big 4, it is mandatory to take the CPA exam. I definitely agree with her statement above. However, if you interested in working in private corporate sector then its up to you.

You need to have two years of audit experience to get licensed in NYS. You can apply in different states and then apply for reciprocity.
