When I went there it was somewhat cheaper but this was before the lire became the euro. My guess would be the dollar would get you less prada because the euro is so much higher than the dollar.

Where are you going in Italy? Outside of Florence, they have outlet shopping where you can get good deals on Prada, Gucci... Also, you can do tax free shopping. Save all of your receipts and get to the airport early to claim all of your tax back.
I have attached a link for a Gucci and Prada Shopping tour:
I regret not going when I went to Florence but I was too busy running around the museums.
Next time!

I lived in Rome back in 2003 so I was able to make it to the outlets by Florence. And the prices were awesome. I bought a Gucci purse for 65 euro. D&G sunglasses for 15 euro. You can get great purses, shoes and other accessories, but the clothes were nothing special. The men's clothing was a great deal. The Armani outlets had men's dress shirts for 20 euro.
The regular stores on Via Condotti in Rome were slightly cheaper in Euro, but since the US dollar was low back then, it was probably the same price. I had friends visit me from Europe in 2004 and they went shopping at Gucci and the other stores in NY and they felt that they were getting a deal here.
Good luck and happy shopping.

i was there 2 months ago - Prada ends up costing more, because it's $1.25 american dollars for every 1 euro.
The outlets in Florence were OK - they didn't have anything nice when I was there though. No great steals, either....I was disappointed.

Oh, I had heard a few years ago that Prada was cheap there. But I thought that was because it's imported here and so there you don't have an extra charge. Guess not
