I have to go to a baby shower and the couple doesn't know what they are having.
I slacked off in buying a gift and most things have been bought already off their registry.
I wanted to do something special for them Any good ideas? Everyone here always has the best ideas.

My mind isn't working that great now, but you could get a Toys R Us GC which can be used at Babies R Us and get some books at the book store. Not that unique but useful.

I saw something cute at a shower... someone got her a baby bath tub and filled it with all sorts of baby supplies, like baby powder, diapers, cute onesies, etc (things she'll need for the baby on a daily basis).. I bet it didn't cost too much but I'm sure the new mom appreciated it!

I have see where you make a clothes line nad attached outfits for the baby up to the first year. You could do something like this for the first few months, mostly green, yellow and white.
Ive also seen a wagon given- those are cute and useful for when the baby gets bigger.
Also, classic childrens books are always good.

'08er crashing.
my mom and I made something called a diaper cake. we saw it online and it was expensive so we figured we could make it ourselves cheaper. we bout the pampers and then went to the dollar store for all the accesories (pacifiers, rattles, etc)
All you do is roll the diapers and place them next to each other. you decide how many layers to make it. Once you have your layers, place all usuable baby products around it. You can use lini baby lotions, baby socks, pacifiers and just place it all around the cake.

at my sister's shower, I bought one of those nice fabric hampers from Babies R Us and then I filled it with cute outfits and put them on a clothesline, so as my sis pulled everything out, I had people stand at the front of the room to hold the whole thing up. My niece's due date was Nov. 6th, so it worked nicely b/c I did some holiday outfits that aren't necessarily gender specific (for Turkey day, Christmas, Valentines). It can get really expensive though!!! I think I spent close to $300!! Those outfits add up!

I usually give theme shower gifts....
For Baby Showers: You can do a safety theme-they have all the safety stuff for cabinets, plugs, oven, hot water etc.
Travel theme: (My family is all spread out so we have babies that tend to travel a lot) I bought a travel changing pad, travel bottle warmer, cd's for the car, an extra diaper bag (inexpensive and yes...they will need it) travel wipes case, travel bibs (throwaway kind), travel placemets (they actually stick to the table so they can't throw everything on the floor) , travel bottle cooler, a seat cover that goes under the car seat (babies tend to make a mess in the car)
Wedding showers
Holiday Theme: I buy holiday decorations for all the holidays and put it in holiday boxes that serve for stroage and as decoration. There is a really great place by my FIL's house that I can get stuff for every holiday all year round SUPER CHEAP. I also buy things after the 'holiday' when it is on clearence throughout the year and put it in a box so I am ready, all the time, to go to a bridal shower.

if you are crafty see if you can make a diaper cake (if you search online you can find instructions). they are always cute and everyone loves them. otherwise you might be able to buy them at some gift shops - i think 1800flowers stores might carry them as well (you may want to call first). good luck!

08er crashing.... This is what I did for my cousin's baby shower..... I put all of these things in the tub and then wrapped it up in celophane....HTH!!!

1.) I've seen people do the Thank Yous for the mommy-to-be...meaning you get a beautiful set of TY cards, address all the envelopes for her with the guests names & put stamps on them...so all she has to do is write them! You could get a nice keepsake box to put them in.
2.) For my brother I bought a wood box at Michael's that was not finished & painted it in neutral colors..then filled it with baby books and small things like that...my nephew still has it at 8 years old
3.) Offer to make the birth announcements when the baby arrives?? I do this as a gift to my friends...i custom make them...put them in envelopes & put stamps on them so all they need to do is address them

Then there is a line called Barefoot Dreams (I received one of there blankets for my shower and I LOVED it) I might buy a couple of things from this line....

i thought this was really thoughtful gift at a baby shower someone wrapped up like a nice pair of slippers and pjs (for when she came home) and got her a gift certificate to get her hair and nails done i guess its nice to give the mom a little credit for all the hard work she has gone through for the last 9 months
