I currently take Yasmin BC pills but am very bad at remembering to take them, and I really am sick of the costs. So I have a friend who has an IUD and she loves it. I've been seeing the commercials for Mirena and asked my doc about it, and she's all for me getting one implanted. I just found out that my insurance company covers it so all I have to pay is my $40 copay!!!!
Anyone have this IUD? Any complaints? Mood swings? Pain during implantation? Movement of the IUD? Etc? Would love to hear any users' thoughts on it.

I am a teeny bit concerned Bonnie, but the savings and the convenience is really drawing me in ....

i talked to my doctor about it bc the pill simply doesn't work for me. i'm just unwilling to put a foreign object in there before having any kids. the doc assures me that they're low risk, but i'm not necessarily trusting enough of doctors to gamble with fertility.
but then maybe i'm just a little crazy.

I didn't even THINK of that. But IUDs have been around for many, many years ... I don't think they would still be around if there was a big risk of infertility ... but it is something to think about. Thanks.

I have the Mirena. BUT I got it after having my daughter. I THINK but I'm not certain, that its not recommended if you haven't had children yet.
You have to go for check ups to make sure its still in place. You can also do self tests at home (you have to pull on these strings that are WAY up there. Nice huh?) But if it gets dislodged, you can get pg.
Also, if you are prone to ovarian cysts, you might have to stay on the pill anyway. In 10% of women, Mirena causes ovarian cysts. I have the Mirena for BC AND I'm on the pill for cysts. Its like wearing a belt with suspenders.
OOOO and yes, it hurts when they put it in but it goes away in 30 seconds.

Thanks, Caroline. I know it's recommended for people who have had kids, but my doc said she's put it in lots of women who haven't and has had little to no complaints about it.
I am a little concerned about checking to see if it's in place. Is it hard to do yourself? I think I read that they recommend you check it after you have your period every month. Does it tend to move around a lot? Does it move during sex?
I'll be talking to my doc about it at length before I get it.
Thanks a ton!

Yeah, you can check for the strings yourself. It isn't graceful. have you ever gotten a tampon stuck ALL the way up there? Its like that. You have to get your hand ALL The way up there & feel for these strings that feel like fishing wire. You never feel them when you are walking around though. And It barely moves. I think its in less than 1% of people that it moves.

Ugh. Don't like the idea of checking for it. Never have gotten a tampon stuck so I am unsure of this.... but I am glad to hear that it rarely moves. Thanks again!
