I work for my father and he is sending me for the Notary classes.
Now my question is can I notarize something for him, we have the same last name. This would be for work related things only.
Im hoping someone will know!

i took the class about a year ago & i remember they said that you can not notarize anything that could possibly financially benefit you. i know for a fact that FMIL can not notarize documents for FH.

Exactly. I usually try to stay away from notarizing things for my immediate family, especially if finances are involved.

I work for an attorney and am a notary. As long as you are not named in the document, as far as we know, you can notarize it.

I am a notary - it depends on what it is. Most financial documents you cant. (We'll you can but if for some reason it is ever taken to court, etc...it could be used against you and the document will be invalid).
I notarie documents that arent so important for my family all the time. If it was a documnet having to do with money and myself I wouldnt.

I am a Notary and now an atty. You cannot notarize for your family. I would at least wait until you are married and have different names if you want to even risk it. THe document will not hold up if it is challenged and you will also not be able to be a notary any longer.
