NWR: Anyone else wish they picked a different career?

NWR: Anyone else wish they picked a different career?

I went to college for accounting, I'm studying for my CPA exam, I've been working for 3 1/2 years, so I have a decent grasp on what I'm doing and I make good money for someone my age. And I don't like my career. I hate the hours, I hate the politics, I don't like the competitive nature of the people I work with (we work for bonuses). Sometimes I just really wish I picked something else.

Anyone else feel this way? Its a little depressing

I'm hoping I don't feel the same way about practicing law...

At least I'm here on a full scholarship so if I change my mind down the road I'm not tethered to a job I hate for the rest of my life.

Would things be different if you worked at a smaller accounting firm? My dad is a CPA and likes his job.

I think I just don't like accounting. I worked in a big 4 firm, left there and went into private. Now I work at an investment banking firm and I'm still not happy. I mean - I can deal with it, I'm just so jealous of those people that sincerely like their jobs.

When I got out of college I had no clue as to what I was going to do. I didnt want to stay in retail forever. I kinda wanted to be a pharmacist but I hate bio, chem and all that crap. I wanted to become a K teacher bec I was jealous that FH had 3 months off. But now I love what I do, Im in a mans world but I love it!

Everyday, I just can't evr decide what it is that I really want to do. I feel like I am wasting my degree.

Yeah, I guess I should be happy I'm using my degree and that I have a good job. The days just go by sooooooooo slow and I NEVER get out of here on time. We have random nights a couple times a week when I'll be stuck here til 8 or 9.

Oh well. Kudos to the people who like their jobs

I regret my career choice and I know that if I stay with what I'm doing I'll be miserable. I went into it with the best of intentions, but its not enjoyable or very lucrative even with my master's. After the wedding I'm going back to school so i can do something I really will enjoy.

I am an accountant too and I feel the same way. I stopped studying for the exam and I went into private, which I love so much better. But it still stinks. I wish I stuck with the vet program I was in, but it is too late to start that many yeras of school now.

I've been in the corporate world long enough and I'm ready to get out. I'm going back to school to be an elementary ed teacher.

You know what... I'm in a completely different field and many of the issues you dislike are the same. I don't mind my hours even though they are overnight shifts but I work a long day 12hrs. And I have to work holidays, Im not having Thanksgiving this year because I am working the night before and the night of Thanksgiving. There are 'office' politics everywhere you go and the catiness when you work in a field 99% women is unbelievable!!!!

i hate it because of the people, not the job. It's mostly the people who run the program I am in (I graduate in a few weeks!) who make me doubt what I've chosen.....actually, I was hung up on by the director today, nice huh? Then they wonder why no one wants to teach at this college.....

If thats the type of people I will be working with, this is gonna be a lllllooooooongggggggg proccess!

I really wish i knew what i wanted to do when I grew up!

I went to school for elementary ed, hated it in student teaching. I ended up in business where politics is everything Unfortunately these days no matter what your career its not about what you know but WHO.

Sometimes I think i'd just love to be a stay at home mom...but that's not gonna happen plus, i'd probably get bored after a while.
