NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

Has anyone had Lasik eye surgery? How much did it cost? Who did you use? How long was the recovery time? Was it worth it? Thanks!!!

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

i had it done in 2004... the technology is supposedly a lot better now and less painful then when i had it done but i remember my eyes burnt when i first got it done and only felt better when i took a nap... FH got it done last year and he had a much better experience. My vision has worsened off over the years and i now need glasses to drive so i personally do not think it was worth it for me... but then again i had it many years ago and the technology is a lot better supposedly now... i went to the stahl eye center in garden city, i would go elsewhere though as i did not like my experience w/ them.

I would not go to Stahl either. I also had a disappointing experience with them, my vision changed which I knew was a possibility but I HATED the doctor who did my surgery, I thought he was a real jerk, and I think he just wanted the money and shouldn't have advised that I have it done as young as I did. The Stahl place used to be great, pioneers in that kind of surgery when no one else was doing it but when Dr. Stahl died and it became more of a factory the quality of work went way down.

I would recommend people do it if you are old enough that your eyes will not change more, and at a place where the doctors are nicer. Be aware though that vision worsening aside, I have terrible night vision now and my eyes get really dry, and when they're dry my vision gets worse too. I think that's a fairly typical result.

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

I had it back in 05 and went to Stahl. My experience was great. I went to the one over off Stewart Ave in G.C. I had Dr.. umm... something starting with a W i believe.

I was totally TOTALLY against the surgery cuz i was so scared but my mom talked me into going for a consultation. I went and then had the surgery 2 days later lol.
The worst part was really all the tests before hand. Specifically the one where they measure your tears and put a piece of paper on ur lower eyelash. it didn't hurt just really uncomfortable.

The entire actual procedure lasts about.. umm... 5 min tops! I was so nervous the day of my Dr. gave me a stuffed dog to hold lol. (i'm such a wimp)

The only side effects i have are dry eyes but nothing too too bad. No halo effect or anything. I sat and watched tv all day that day which i guess wasn't the best thing to do but i was fine. I went to target later in the night and that was a bit much but i was still ok.

Best thing i ever did.

Stahl was def good. My cousin went years ago, i went, and 2 people went after me and we are all fine and had good experiences with them. I was almost legally blind and now i have 20/20!

Hi, I'm actually going for the LASEK procedure on friday 2/6/09. It's a little different then Lasik. The recovery time is supposed to be a little longer but I was not a candidate for the Lasik. I'm going to Dr. Vincent Basilice in east setuaket so far my experience with the office has been nothing but great. The only hard part is wearing my glasses the past 2 weeks... I'll Let you know on friday how it goes.

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

I had Dr. Chang. Adriana, you probably had Dr. Werner, who I think is better.

When I went in for the surgery I was soo nervous but didn't realize until I noticed I was shaking. They gave me a bunny to hold lol... and the doctor said to me 'wow, how are you ever going to have babies if you can't handle this?' I was getting the surgery to pass an upcoming police eye test (I was in line to become a cop at the time, went a totally different path instead but that's another story) and he passed another comment about how I couldn't handle being a cop and getting shot at if I couldn't handle this, which I responded to with 'when on the street is any criminal gonna shoot a laser directly into my eye?'. Not to mention, I handled it just fine, I wasn't comfortable but he was just a jerk the whole time, I wasn't crying or freaking out or ANYTHING. He constantly made condescending rude comments about cops and stuff which I found ridiculous since so many of his patients are law enforcement.

After the surgery I noticed my vision starting to get worse again but every appt they were like 'no no it's still 20/20', yet I had trouble seeing while driving and stuff especially. They cover 'enhancements' and visits and stuff for a year after the surgery. After like 10 months of being told my vision was great, after it started to regress at about 6-7 months, I went to my old eye doctor who was like 'no way, it's def not 20/20 and it couldn't have been for a while'. SURE ENOUGH at the 1 yr 1 month visit where enhancements were no longer covered my vision had 'suddenly' regressed and further surgery was discussed.

So that's why I have a problem with them. I'm sure plenty of people have had good experiences with them and my parents did a long long time ago when they started out but I sure didn't and wouldn't recommend them.

I had it done in Jan of 07 by Jodi Abramson at TLC in the White Plains, NY office. She is amazing, it was worth every penny and more; i've had no problems. :)

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

I am so torn. It's hard to decide because I hear so many bad things and so many great things and I have no idea what my results will be. My vision isn't the worst but I definitely need glasses/contacts and lately my contacts have been bothering me.
How much did it cost at TLC?

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

There's another procedure called PRK which is a bit more painful and takes a little longer to heal but it's supposed to last longer. My Fh got it last year and he LOVES it. He has 20/10 vision now with no scarring or anything. It may be another option if you are worried about how long it will last.

this is what i had because if your corneas are too thin you are not a lasik candidate. Recovery was about 1-2 days more than regular lasik. It was great. I have 20/15 vision

I had it done at TLC on 57th street. If I remember correctly it was $5800 - but covered by my flex spending. Dr. Speaker did mine.

It is the best thing I've ever done for myself, for sure.

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

I work in an operating room at a local hospital and I wanted to get it done. . . . When I asked one of the Dr's I work with, his response was show me one eye Dr that had it done and I will get it. There are very few eye Dr that have had lasik surgery b/c of the long term risk.

3 people I know have had it done with the past 2 years and are all on prescription eye drops. Just make sure that it is something you truly want to do b/c you can't go back!

Re: NWR: Anyone had LASIK?

mine cost 5200 with Dr. Donnenfeld at the TLC in garden city...

they do great financing options, i put 2500 down and financed the rest, and since im paying it off in a year, i dont have to pay any interest or finance charges
