NWR - Anyone have an IUD?

I'm thinking of getting one placed....but i'm so worried that the insertion is going to HURT. Anyone have one? Pros/Cons? I obviously know all the medical stuff, i just need some personal opinions.

THANKS

Re: NWR - Anyone have an IUD?

My gyno tried convincing me to get one, and I did some research on it. I wasn't comfortable about having something inserted in my in the first place, but then I read horror stories about women having their IUD's pierce their uterus, and I was so turned off. I know someone that had hers removed recently, and she said her periods have been erratic every since. I would opt for another method of BC, but that's just me.

It's so weird that you posted this because my friend and I were JUST talking about it like an hour ago! Just a head's up she is now 7 months pregnant! She had one placed and her gyno said it accidentally slipped out and oops!!

Granted nothing is 100%, but holy cow!!!

The whole idea grosses me out. I dont think I could do it! One of my friends got one after having twins and shes had no problems other than a lot of bleeding at the beginning.

I heard one of the other risks is scar tissue growth.........so a lot of gynos will only put one in if use already had one child...just in case u can't have another from the tissue

Try researching depo prevera....the bc shot

Re: NWR - Anyone have an IUD?

I'm a doctor and know the risks/benefits etc (not to sound cocky)...and the risks of uterine perforation, scar tissue etc is minimal and not really what i'm worried about.
I'm more concerned about the actual insertion process. I have a very sentitive vag-jayjay LOL and even a regualr speculum hurts me....so i kind what to know from you girls who ever had one placed if its like murder to place it.
I've never had a baby, so i've obviously never gave birth and i dont know that pain.....and i'm hoping the insertion is nothing like it, lol.

Of course any experiences are apriciated...i'm sick of the pills and the ring.

Oh yea and totally no depo for me, way too much incidence of weight gain lol plus the reason i want the IUD is becuase it is hormone free....i'm sick of yeast and bacterial infections from this cr@p

I mean, how bad can it really hurt? Have you ever gotten a bikini or Brazilian wax? It can't hurt much more than either of those

I've had bikini waxes (still a little chicken to go brazilian)....but i was reading on the insertion process and they use a cervical tenaculum which i've seen used during colopolscopies and it looked like a medieval touture device!!!!!!

I used to work at a GYN office. Not very popular but the woman who used it didn't really seem to have problems. I wouldn't bc if the side effects didn't agree with me it would suck to have it taken out...

Well, i will need to take it out when i want to have kids....and the side effects of the pill and ring are just killing me....
Lord knows i'm not going back to condoms LOL

Re: NWR - Anyone have an IUD?

Ok... I got one almost 2 years ago now (mirana) and I love that I pretty much stopped getting a period (yay) but during that time of the month I started getting absolutely horrible mood swings. I was actually worried I was starting to develop a disorder. FH thought they were so bad he wanted me to get it taken out bc he didn't think it was worth it. I've gotten better and I started taking Vitamin B6 because I was told it helps (whether its all in my head I don't care it helps).

As for the insertion, I like to think of myself as pretty tough with a high pain tolerance, and it was pretty much horrible. I don't know if I would choose to go through it all over again. Granted, it doesn't last that long and the IUD can stay in for 5 years, but I remember how much pain I was in during that time.

Since then I've heard some other scary horror stories and I'm a little nervous so I think after the wedding when I take it out I won't get a new one. Several of my friends have it though and they haven't had any complications and it didn't seem like they were in nearly as much pain as me.

hum, something to think about then....
I am personally thinking about getting Paraguard, not Mirena because Mirena has hormone laced tips and i want to stear clear of hormones if at all possible.

I really think i need to talk to my GYN, now if i only had the time.
