NWR: Anyone having trouble with their boss?

Hi all,

So lately my office has been unbearable - partly due to the slow economy. Everyone is on edge and we are being reprimanded constantly for silly things like taking personal calls at work. My boss especially, who is 38 and single, has been really hard on me lately and saying I (and the rest of my colleagues) need to be working harder and over the weekends! UGH. It's so frustrating that she isn't cutting me any slack based on the huge other event in my life. There is only so much effort I can put into work these days with my wedding just over 2 months away!

Do you guys have crazy bosses who are putting MORE pressure on you now than ever? I have a hard time just letting it go so if you have any advice, I'm open...

I think it is hard on most people these days. Maybe she is worried about making numbers to keep her job, or maybe she is having a rough time at home? She may also see all of the fun things that you are planning and unknowingly be a little jealous (she is single and all). I would try to engage her in conversation about non-work stuff, and try to feel her out a little. Try to see if there is something wrong or if she needs a friend. If she is just generally unkind and not understanding, maybe she needs someone to show her that she cares about her. Or maybe it is just time to shop for another job...that is the conclusion I have come to with my boss.

I think the entire office is worried about making numbers. She is definitely getting stress from her bosses and it's trickling down to me. It's hard out there so I feel lucky to even have a job (God knows I need the $$ right now!), but sometimes I wonder if it's worth it...

I am just trying to focus on the awesome things in my life right now. I get to marry an amazing man and I get to go on a honeymoon in October and I will be thousands of miles away from this crap!

Wow I am so sorry about your back injury. Hopefully it will get better soon!

You are right though - the grass is always greener on the other side of the pond.

OMG I can't stand my boss anymore!!! She runs a small grooming shop and besides me, there is only 2 other groomers as well as herself...

She could really care less about any of her employees. All she cares about is making her money. We are supposed to close and be done by 5, I am barely ever out of there before than. I can only groom so many dogs in one day and she just books and books appointments like it's not a big deal. I like to take my time and make sure everything is perfect. Sometimes, if the dog is big, it takes me a while and she complains about it. I told her that maybe she shouldn't book me so many in one day, knowing that I am a perfectionist. I'd rather not do it at all than do a bad job.

I told her that I wanted off from the 8th until I get home from my HM on the 29th. Yes, I know thats a while but I put in for it 7 months ago and it was fine when I did. All of a sudden she approached me 2 days ago and told me that I had to come into work that week , even Friday. I told her that Friday is my RD and Saturday is my Bridesmaids Brunch so I can't do it. She said, well than I expect to see you here up until Thursday. Thats 3 days before my wedding!! OK I can live with that now that I have too...

So, today I asked her if I could take off 9/9 (Tues) to meet with my RH to finalize my menu and pay for the wedding. Guess what she said, I DON'T GIVE A F*** ABOUT YOUR WEDDING! I couldn't believe it!!!

I told her that if she doesn't respect me, I am not going to respect her back. I told her NEVER AGIAN will she talk to me like that because I will walk. Not to mention, I work 2 jobs 6 days a week, I am a full time student (online) and I am planning a wedding (6 weeks away).. Like, cut me some slack!!

She told another girl that I work with that she only flipped out like that at me because she's jealous! How pitiful to you have to be to actually admit that!!!!

I told her to just let me be, and let me do my job, and she agreed. It was as simple as that. Honestly, I thought I was going to be fired, but I am so over stressed I could really care less!!!

Re: NWR: Anyone having trouble with their boss?

that is so inappropriate for her to say to you!
i truly think that unless you've planned a wedding you really have no clue as to what it takes.

maybe i'm stereotyping here, but it seems that bosses who are single, female, and older than 35 but pining to be married (and not all ladies are like this- in know ppl who don't ever want to be married) but the ones who want to and are over 35, sad about being single can be real pains sometimes to work for.

my boss fits that category. i can't even call vendors during lunch b/c she seems to forget that it's lunchtime and that i am allowed to call whomever i want at that time. she said to me twice that i make too many wedding phone calls.

HELLooooo! i am sorry but weekdays are the only times i can get in touch w/ ppl to make appts for wknd b/c i'm usually booked with appts on the wknd, or running around doing other wedding stuff. did i mention that lunchtime is MY time???

This is my long winded post saying 'I understand what you are going through!'
