NWR - anyone know best way to get rid of fleas?

I just figured out my cats have fleas, I did internet research and scared the crap out of myself. I'm heading to the pet store to buy every fumigator/spray/ointment on the market. Anyone ever deal with this and know the best way to get rid of them??

I would bring them to the vet for a treatment. It's the most assured way of getting rid of critters!

You will want to bomb the house when both you (and any other humans/animals) and the cat are not there. Make sure the cat is dipped on the same day , otherwise the house will re-infect the cat, or vice-versa.

Your vet will probably recommend a flea prevention thing.. I forget what its called, but its a little drip of ointment that goes on the back of their neck once a month. It helps them avoid getting re-infested.

you will want to bomb your house, and vacuum, wash sheets, any cat beds, etc should get shaken out or washed if possible!

Good luck!

P.S., dont feel bad, its very normal, once you learn to avoid it it won't happen again.

We figured we'd wash the cats and take them out of the house while we bomb it. We'll come back vacuum everything we can't wash.

I called the vet and they recommended that ointment for the back of the neck, from Frontline.

I'm glad others have dealt with this, at least I know its possible to get rid of these things.

Katone, I would not recommend the Hartz products sold in stores. There have been awful reactions to Hartz products. I would go to the vet. Mine prescribed Frontline. In addition, please check your cats for worms- one of mine had got them from the fleas. Good luck!

I called the vet and they said all they would do is give me the Frontline spot treatment. So I got that. Thanks for the warning on the Hartz products, hope that doesn't apply to their foggers, because I have 9 cans of them!

yes yes yes, when we got our cat few years ago she had fleas, I would bathe her almost everyday (I know you shouldnt ) but she kept getting them back... so I finally figured out that the fleas actually lived in the couch once we moved out of that apartment she never had fleas again (without the couch of course)

I got the frontline plus that the vet recommended. I'M FREAKING OUT this morning. I have an irrational fear of bugs and my cat was laying on my nightstand and when she left there were about 30 little flea larvae moving about. I can't bomb the house until tomorrow since I'm at work today. THIS TOTALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to be safe, i wouldn't use the Hartz flea bombs.
