Considering looking at houses in Oceanside. I am not overly familiar with the area though. What are the different sections and are there any that you would want to stay away from? Are some nicer than others? Looking at MLS there seems to be a huge swing in the prices from low to high. TIA!

Re: NWR: Anyone live in Oceanside?
Im right next door in island park but i take the LIRR Oceanside train everyday!
I think ALL of O-side is nice, and never heard of any 'shady' parts or anything - so you should be good no matter where you look!
Good luck!

Re: NWR: Anyone live in Oceanside?
FH and i live in the next town over (east Rockaway) and we plan to hopefully move to Oside after the wedding! Its a great town! very diverse, lots of shopping, very good schools, etc.
anywhere you look will be nice. Its the size of the houses that really make the difference in the prices and its not really a shady part but one side is more of a industrial side but still is a very nice area!
If you decide to buy a house there you will be VERY happy!

I live in oceanside. I only have lived here for about 2 years but none of it seems shady. some places are really far south, i would prefer to be farther north bc it takes like 15 mins to get to a hwy. make sure that you are in oceanside SD.

I grew up in Island Park and there is no where that I am aware of in Oceanside that is not good.

Re: NWR: Anyone live in Oceanside?
i grew up in lynbrook and I'd totally live in Oceanside. I;d rather have rvc schools but you'd get slammed w that tax. Not that Oceanside has bad schools, RVC just has some of the best schools in the country.
the closer to the water, obviously the more $.

Re: NWR: Anyone live in Oceanside?
I've been in Oceanside for 28 years (and just to the south in Island park for 17 years before that).
There is no *bad* section. I currently live in the Estates Section and LOVE it. We lived in the OceanLea section for years and loved that too. I don't personally like the Ocean Harbor section because I think it's a little far from the main part of town and has flooding issues, but hubby grew up there and there are some beautiful homes there. I also avoided the Terrace section during our last home upgrade (5 years ago) because it was too far north for us, but again there is nothing wrong with it. Hubby is a Fire Fighter and his Fire House is in the South side of town so we had to take that into account.
I, personally, would avoid Tilrose Avenue. I also wouldn't choose to live on Castleton Court and Homecrest Court or Kenneth Place and Mahland Place . Merle Avenue is a traffic/parking nightmare closer to Oceanside Rd because of the school buildings and of cause the same can be said about Skillman because of the High School.
There are flooding issues in the Ocean Harbor section (West of Lawson Blvd) and some streets in the area back by the middle school and park (South of Mott Street).
Oceanside is a great town and don't think you can go wrong buying a house there.
Have fun House Hunting!!!! Liz

I've lived in Oceanside my whole life, grew up here and went to OHS. Stay away from Mahland place behind McDonalds, and Terrell Ave and you will be fine. Other than the traffic on Long Beach Rd, its a good place to live.
