NWR - anyone try Chantix to quit smoking ?

FH's doctor prescribed it to help him quit smoking.
Just wanted to know how people are affected by it.
Downloaded a report from the Mayo Clinic, but it reads more like a press release.

TIA

my FH took it and stopped... the only side effect that he had that is very common is altered dreaming... like nightmares... but it was worth it!

My mom is on it now, and says that she has weird dreams (not scary weird...just strange) However, she said it isn't helping her to quit.

I think its mind over matter though, she says she likes smoking and doesn't really want to quit, she's just doing it because everyone tells her she should. So she is willing herself AGAINST the pill...plus she hasn't been reliable.

I have heard MANY MANY success stories though!

Question:

My mom said her Doctor told her that she could smoke while using Chantix. (Basically smoke until she doesn't want or need to anymore as a result of the pill)

My sister says that she heard you are supposed to pick a date to stop smoking completely and that that using the chantix helps you to be able to do that...

Anyone know which, if either, is true?

I started the patch on Monday and haven't cheated yet! So far so good, but I have had some weird dreams the past 2 nights.

FH's friend just started the patch and he said the same thing about having really weird dreams!

FH will start the patch tomorrow so I am afraid of what will happen b/c he has weird dreams to begin with!! LOL

Your supposed to set a date and than start the Chantix a week before your quit date, so you are still smoking during that first week because the first week is a lower dose , like a titration dose; you can smoke beyod that first week, but you would prob. get more side effects as the Chantix basically binds to the nicotine receptors in your brain, so if your still smoking beyond that first week there's more 'free nicotine' or Chantix in your system.

( I'm a physician assistant - prescribed it for many patients and have seen good results, I havent had anyone come off of it because of bad side effects, but it is def.mind over matter, because if you don't want to quit, than nothing is going to help you!)

They have a website for it...www.chantix.com

Thanks, Ladies, for all your input.

I downloaded an article from the Mayo Clinic, and it recommends starting on the Chantix while still smoking, and then quitting about one week later.
The Chantix blocks the nicotine receptor cells in the brain, so basically, a person does not get the 'enjoyment pleasure' of smoking a cigarrette.

FH is up for this, he really wants to quit.

Can they do this for chocolate too ?
