Aren't they always saying,'You need to make it your own.' Last night some of them did that and they criticized them for it!! I don't get it.
At least they tried to do something different.

The theme nights are horrible and Paula is out of her mind! Crying??!! Ugggh

I'm excited but this completely SCARES ME!! For one thing...if Diana Ross was tough for some to 'make their own' can you imagine Bon Jovi?!!! Blue eyed white boys from New Jersey with NO SOUL!?!?! Poor Lakisha and Melinda!!!

FH and I were cracking up last night trying to come up with songs that they'll do...scary thoughts!!

Melinda doing 'Have a Nice Day' She'd probably rock though!!!

It sure will be interesting!!

You know who will rock with Bon Jovi if she's around that long? Gina. But that's about it. Everyone else will be scary. Okay maybe Phil or the Jack Osbourne looking guy too....who knows. They might surprise me!!

And FH is always asking me what song I'd do on American Idol- I would have a BALL on Bon Jovi night but I'm not really sure I'd do it justice! Musical Theater girl doing blue eyed new jersey white boy songs!

Re: NWR- Anyone watching American Idol????

I think it is way too difficult for them to have themes that center around a phenomenal singer like Diana Ross, Billy Joel, Elton John, etc. Its very hard to make a song your own but still keep to the original. Last season, one of the contestants, i believe it was Ace wanted to change around Queen's 'We will Rock You/We are the Champions' b/c Queen was the special theme and he wanted to make it his own song. The band members gave him a hard time because it was THEIR song and you can't change a classic like that. And after he sang it, Randy and Simon complained that it just wasn't original! You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't. Doing themes like 80's, 70's, rock songs, love songs, etc. gives the contestants flexibility in choosing their own songs. I think doing a theme as person is way too limiting and its hard to compare to certain individuals because their songs are just too big for them. I don't know...thats just my opinion anyway

Soooo true...they barely have a chance when they have these theme nights. Some might be in their element...some not. It's really unfair. But I guess they do it to see who is a TRUE artist- who can make it their own and not look like an idiot!

I agree Phil & the Jack Osbourne look alike would be pretty good with Bon Jovi. I also think that Jordan & Blake would do a pretty good job with Bon Jovi. I can't see Hailey or Brandon doing Bon Jovi.

OK here's my two gripes with the show ((even though I continue to watch!))

1- I feel like it is some form of unnecessary punishment to make these poor people sing RIGHT AFTER they are voted off. I think that's cruel.

2- I love Blake. I love how he makes everything his own. But the judges say that a classic should stay a classic. Yet, when someone else sings and leaves it, the judges say they didn't make it their own, they just sang it and didn't make it special. Sometimes Simon calls it Keraoke (sp?) Make up your mind!!! Do you want it originial or not!!???

OK I feel better -- I say that to FH every week and he just laughs at me.

I 100% agree with you that it is soooo cruel to make them sing after they have been eliminated. I always say to FH that has got to be so hard and most times, they can't even sing the song because they are crying. I always feel so terrible for them. And as far as making the song their own, like i said before, they can't win if they do it or if they don't do it. I don't know anymore. But i still love the show

Totally agree....America universally agrees that they are the worst contestant...so lets make them sing ONE MORE TIME. And you know what? Let's deliver a dream-crushing blow right before they do it!

I know im alittle late (i worked last night & taped it)

1. Sanjay is this years Chicken little (remember him from last season)
2. the judges need to make up there minds if they want them to be original or keep the song the same
3. the contenstants need to remember the words!
4. the only good singers are Melenda doolittle, laKeisha, Blake and the curly haired girl (i can't remembr her name)
