I don't work in family court, but I believe that a father/mother are only required to pay child support up to the age of 18. College is considered a luxury not a requirement. I suggest looking into scholarships. There are so many scholarships for such a variety of things such as heritage, what hand you write with, single parent households, if the child plays a musical instrument, etc. Speak with your child's guidance counselor and check out scholarship books in your local library.

Actually most child support is required until the age of 21. As for the college tuition, it depends on the divorce or family court agreement. You can always go to the court and ask for an amendment if tuition wasn't included.

In New York, courts may order parents to pay a child's present or future educational expenses, including for post-secondary or education enrichment programs. The court must consider the circumstances of each party and the child's best interests. Orders may specify that payment go directly to the school (N. Y. Dom. Rel. Law § 240(1-b)(c)(7)).
they can be ordered to pay until the child is 23.. if they are enrolled in post secondary education..
