Is it so hard to find an apartment for 2 people and a small dog? It's like IMPOSSIBLE! we don't smoke, we both work full time, I also go to school, we're quite and never have guests. What is the deal?!? This is what makes me hate this island!!! We can't consider a complex until I get a new job because of the $$$

What areas are you looking in? I just moved into a new apartment and it was super tough finding ones that allowed dogs! We also had one apartment turn us down because we didn't have 6 months rent in the bank.... that would be between 10-15k! I WISH we had that much in savings!

I feel your pain. We're looking for a house and the pickings are slim.
ETA: our budget is reasonable and we have well over 20% saved, either houses seem to b way over priced for what they are worth or if they aren't they go off the market really quick.
Good luck in your search.

It's depressing how hard it is to find an apartment when you have a dog. Unless you're getting a new puppy that isn't toilet trained, or your dog is an incessant barker, I don't see why it's such a big deal. It makes me sad b/c there are so many dogs in shelters that need homes, and people that might want to adopt can't do so unless they own their own home. Stupid Long Island... *grumble*

I would honestly look on Craig's List. We have been going through the same thing and I refuse to pay over $1600/mth because I'll never be able to save for a house. I started looking on Craig's List and have found so many beautiful places for way cheaper and most of them include utilities and don't have broker fees! We're going to look at two in RVC, one in Lynbrook and one in Port Washington this weekend!
