NWR: Are you a Big Sister?

I wanted to know if any of you ladies have ever been involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sister program.

I am from NY, but I moved to Los Angeles last year. After the wedding, I am considering getting involved in a Big Sister program out here.

I think it would be great to work with a young girl and help her deal with any issues or problems.

Thanks for any input.

I have also thought about getting involved with the program. My Aunt was a Big Sister over 25 years ago and she is still in touch with her little sister. I think it is a great program. It just seems so hard for me to juggle my time between work, the wedding and soon my MBA. I would love to do it though.

Yes! I was through out all 4 years in college (undergrad). It was an awesome experience and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Speaking from experience, I was a little sister. My mom did this for my sister and I when she left my abusive father. Having a friend, a shoulder to cry on when I needed it, and just someone to have fun with and take away all of my bad memories every weekend helped me grow into an understanding and compassionate woman. I applaud you ladies for helping under priveledged girls, or just girls who need direction, as I did. Hats off to you ladies!!!! Your definately appreciated.

For the girls who did it, how often did you meet with your 'little sister'?

I was involved for 10 years in something similar called the HUGS program. It was a wonderful experience and I too would be interested in getting involved in BS/LS. Any info would be appreciated.
