If you were exposed to Raw Sewage can anything serious happen to you...diseases/illnesses???

Anyone have knowledge or personal experience?

I know its such a weird question

I would go to a doctor.....maybe there are some shots that you should get (like Tetnus).

Do I even want to know where this question came from?

Re: nwr AT ALL- but hopefully someone can help

i am asking because on monday my school had a flood- but it wasnt a regular old flood, a pipe burst and raw sewage filled the entire basement level of our school- music room, cafeteria, tech ed room, hallways... the whole nine! Kids have been complaining of headaches and I have tightness in my chest...the kids arent old enough to 'be making it up' they wouldnt know to put two and two together... and I dont know if my headaches and my not feeling well is because i am getting sick or because of the school OR maybe i was getting sick and now it is exasperated due to the odors, the bacteria etc at school.. i am confused but i dont want to complain although mant teachers and parents are

the kicker is that when a teacher went downstairs with a custodian and they moved a filing cabinet and guess what they found YES>..no one moved anything and the raw sewage was still not cleaned up in all places... in addition the chairs and tables were not sanitized , the list goes on...

i would just get things checked out to be safe. i imagine ordinary raw sewage is probably not as bad as new orleans which is chockfull of corpses and god only knows what else by now, but it's probably not the best thing for you either - especially if you were exposed to it for some time, or if they haven't cleaned it up very well. you should go to the doctor just to be safe. it could just be psychosomatic or the smell, but who knows.

its def. the smell... it is atrocious! there is no getting by it.. it has permeated the entire school and now even the cleaning supplies are getting to us... i know it is def.not a new orleans situation ...not at all.. but there was feces and urine amongst other things in there...and from what i hear it wasnt just a little... i cant even imagine!

I guess it wont hurt to go to the doc and tell him that i have been exposed to it...see if there are any things i should do...

Thanks ladies
