NWR-BABY GIFTS

Hi Ladies...
thought maybe you could help me out. One of my close friend and BM's is having a baby and for her shower I wanted to get her a bunch of things...BUT...1 thing that would be really special and memorable. Any ideas...maybe something you were given or gave that made an impression?

Thanks!

Honestly, when my sister had her baby the best gifts were things that she really needed that were not bought yet on her registry. There are certain things you need for the baby from like day 1. Maybe do that then also something memorable. If you can wait until after the baby is born or you know what the name will be you can get a blanket, or picture frame, or rattle with the babies name on it.

I just went to a baby shower over the weekend and one of the gifts was clothes for the different season all clipped to a clothes line. It was soooooo cute and must have taken forever becasue they had to think of the sizes over time. It had little halloween outfits and holiday PJS.

clothes, bassinett, stroller/carseat set, diapers, hand made sweater and blankets.

for my cousins first baby i made her a big rolling basket of baby food jar and cereals i just made sure they didn't expire for at least 9month to a year out.
and a bunch of adorable clothes from gyboree.

You could give gifts with a theme...
high chair with eating utensils, plates/bowls, bottles, cups and high chair toys

or

bathtub and tub seat with towels, washcloths, baby wash and lotions, nail care supplies ect.

or if you have your heart set on a special keepsake think of.... silver rattle from fortunoff, or silver comb/brush or baby jewelry or something for the nursery .. decor. I gave someone a scrapbook and scrapbook supplies to make the babie's first album.. but I don't think she ever put it together I thought it was a great gift... but everyone's different.
Fortunoff also has keepsake boxes for storing special keepsakes. they are decorated w/ tulle ect.

Re: NWR-BABY GIFTS

I like scrap books. I know it's lame, but I just went to a shower for my FMIL's best friend's daughter. We picked it up at JcPenneys and it already comes with all the stuff you need to make your own scrapbook.

I think even food is a great idea. If you bake, maybe make sugar cookies cut out into the shape of something for a baby shower or baby related. I think something like that shows that you put more thought into the gift. I love making things that people can eat!

My sister and (what seems like) ALL of my friends just had babies, so:

Diaper cakes if you are a DIYer. So cute and actually useful because you make it with different sized diapers.

OR - (another DIY) Custom onesies, blankets or shirts (another DIY). You can buy a blank onesie (or whatever), design it (I use Publisher - easy), and get either transfer medium or those iron on things. You can put anything: sayings like 'My Dad's a Geek!' or 'Dad's Best Catch' (with a picture of a fishing pole), a Metallica (or any) album cover, picture of Barack Obama (whatever they are into) or a family tree (picture of a tree with their names on it).

OR - At one recent shower I was at, someone bought burp cloths and fabric pens. Everyone at the shower wrote a little message or drew a picture.

OR - I'm not sure of your budget, but a Radio Flyer wagon (filled with presents or empy) always steals the show.

Thats really pretty!

I love the shadowbox idea- also the idea with some personalized stuff - maybe a personalized diaper bag with the baby's first name?

omg the excersaucer i forgot about that thing

that is such a sanity saver i loved that thing my daughter could sit , bounce, and spin for hours while i did stuff around the house.

oh and the pack and play i loved that easy to fold up pay pen to bring where ever we would be with her for a while

if she registered see what's on there like we have china patterns i wanted a certain pattern for my stuff and was a little upset peple got different stuff... i ended up exchanging it but still being preggo and luging around big boxes af baby stuff was not fun.

I always like to get something personalized, a blanket, photo album, etc.
OR
Since most parents want a million pics of their newborn without having to take them to an outside studio, a gift card for baby pics is a unique idea! I specialize in baby photos in the home! You can FM me for more info and web address!

For the shower I usually get her things she will need -- but put together a theme.

When my nieces were born I got them each a Tiffany Rattle. I usually give a personalized blanket from Pottery Barn to my Friends who have kids after the baby is born.

maybe not for your one 'special gift' but an idea I saw at one of my friends showers was a basket of all sorts of children's books. It was a group gift where we each contributed our favorite children's book from growing up...it was kind of fun to see which book each person brought. And she wound up with a ton of great books to read to her daughter.

Re: NWR-BABY GIFTS

For my shower I got a cute little piggy bank with my son's name on it (we had already picked out his name), its now my son's first and only piggy bank... when its full we transfer the funds to his bank account. My brother got my son his first pair of nike sneakers (theyr sooo cute & soooo tiny), they are now sitting in his room on his shelf. The nicest most touchy gift I got was a beautiful baby blue crochet sweater a coworker made for my baby, its still hanging in his closet, saving it for the next one, its very special...Something personalized is always nice, maybe a toy box, a prince/princess chair with name and photo pocket, baby's first bracelet with name.
