NWR Baby shower mini vent

So I am in charge of throwing a baby shower for my MOH. How many people on average would you say is about right for a baby shower. Any baby shower I have been to has been at most maybe 20 people. Her original list was 50 people and she has narrowed it down to 35. With paying for the wedding, I don't exactly have an extra 800 or more to throw around. I've been trying to figure out how I can do this so I can get all 35 guests but there's really no one to help me with it and I'm not about to say hey you help pay for your own shower. How wrong would it be if I ask her to cut down her guest list? Since it would be in Feb, I can't even do like a picnic or bbq.

Hmmmm..where are you planning on having it? If you pick your house and you think it can hold that many, just maybe ask people to bring an appetizer and then cater from somewhere? We did this for our friends' bridal shower, all of the bridesmaids brought an appetizer and the mother got a chicken dish, made a salad, had some rolls and two pasta dishes. She had about 60 people!

would she mind doing it at a knights of columbus or an american legion? its less expensive. you can also try getting a private room at a diner. when i was looking for my e-party, the diner i settled for ,(which is so cute!) had a breakfast buffet for only 10 bucks a person! We're doing a brunch there this weekend to celebrate our engagement and the most each plate will cost is $19 (its an open menu). Also, where do you live? is queens too far for u? theres this place called the elks lodge by me its so nice! like a knights of colombus and they have a brunch menu for $18.00 pp. not too bad. Don't go insane. find a happy medium and nicely, explain you have this thing called a wedding thats kinda a lot of money! lol
I'm sure shes going to appreciate your effort in putting it together.

doesn't she have any family to help out?
every baby shower that i have been to has been way over 20 people. i'm talking more like 45-60 people on average - kinda just like a bridal shower.
can yu fit the number of guests in her original guest list in your home? or a number close to it?
if you do it there, then you can either cater ot make the food yourself and save a ton of money there. the only overhead you will have are decorations

any way you can host it in your own home? or the home of a close friend/family member? that will save costs from not having to rent out a venue.
It's sort of hard to cut the guest list down to 20; unless it's her 2nd. For her first; i'm sure a lot of people would want to come.

i threw my sister a sprinkle for her 2nd baby over the summer @ my house. I probably spent a couple hundred on food/beverages. but also got my Mom to make some food; and my aunt.

Can you see if any of her relatives can help prepare some food?

i agree. cutting down her original guest list from 50 to 20 or even 35 is quite a huge cut
how about if you make it potluck - and everyone can bring a dish to contribute?

I was thinking about that. My apt would be great but I'm in Ma. My mother's house would be too small. She has a 2 family in Brooklyn so her apartment would be cramped. I was going to do the Knights of Columbus but I'm trying to see how much that would be and if I can get sponsered. Even if I were to do a restaurant that would be pricey.

if you do a brunch, you'll be able to keep the cost down. Some restaurants might have private rooms with a fixed menu or even a buffet.

I went to a surprise birthday party at John Harvards in Lake Grove, and they rented out the back room. It was 19 pp and this included an appitizer, salad/soup, entree and cake. Not sure if your located in suffolk, but it's just an idea

I have a huge family so we always have a lot of people at showers but usually everyone helps out. But it is always at someone's house so pot luck works for us.
Her mom is not helping with the cost?
Check out places that will do it buffet style that is always the cheapest way to go. My friend had her shower in the back of a pizzeria and the food was great and really affordable.
Good luck!

She had originally cut it to 35 because she didn't want a Jack and Jill shower. She just started talking to brother again and can't stand his wife. Her apt. is kinda small. I wouldn't mind cooking for 35 its just trying to find a place big enough. Everywhere I've looked is so expensive. There really is no one to help me. The father's family doesn't know yet and I don't know if he wants to tell them. I've done nothing but go over numbers and search for stuff but its nearly impossible.

My mom suggested a pizzeria. Even brunch or buffet's I was looking at were like 30 bucks a person. Those were at restaurants. I'm hoping the KOC isn't like 800 bucks. She doesn't have a huge family and as far a girlfriends go me and her are about the same where most of our friends are guys. They can't be bothered with the baby shower stuff lol

Not sure if you're interested in Queens but the Bohemian Hall beer garden has a studio type room that rents for $50 per hour and then you could just bring in your own food.

I didn't even think of Queens. That shuldn't be too hard for all us Brooklynites to get to. Thx

I'm a little confused. She had such a large guest list, none of those people can help? If they are not family and she doesn't have a lot of female friends, who are these people?

I was thinking the same thing. Like I know for large families and people with a lot of close friends it'd be a big party. But I'm looking at the list and I'm thinking to myself you barely speak to this person. It's kinda rude to put on the invite here's the registry bring a gift and 15 bucks towards the party.
