Am I the only bad Catholic who didn't realize it was Ash Wednesday until i saw a post about it on LIW?
And then still didn't go get ashes?
Ahhhh...those 14 years (since pre-school!!!) of Catholic school really paid off!!!

Re: NWR: Bad Catholic!
I think I'm probably worse because I did realize and just didn't make the time to go. In my defense, I had a really long day today (meeting/program from 9-12, work from 1-9, although I did have a dinner break from 5-6 so I really should have gone at 5:30) Can you tell I feel guilty?

Re: NWR: Bad Catholic!
I understand the significance behind Ash Wednesday and completely agree that all christians should take some time out and reflect upon the beginning of Lent and the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for us.
Having said that, I don't agree that we are bad catholics if for some reason we ate meat today or we didn't have ashes imposed on our foreheads. What good would these things do if we do not take our time to reflect upon what this symbolism means.
So definitely, do not feel as if you're a bad catholic if you missed today's rituals.

I agree completely! If you forgot today, then make it up by fasting another day this week or doing a good deed. God is not gonna be pissed if you ate chicken or meat today!

Re: NWR: Bad Catholic!
That is really true about the guilt, I tried to get my mom all riled up asking, 'Now what are ashes supposed to mean? The body of something?' 'Now why can't we eat meat?' 'Now why do we have to give up something for 40 days?' By the end of the conversation, she was hysterical laughing saying over and over, 'where did we go wrong?' I said, well does it count that I'm on that body for life thing and have to eat 6 meals a day, I promise not to eat in between meals.
