NWR: Banks..

We are going to open a joint account. I was just wondering if you ladies had suggestions as to banks we could use. I am looking for perks. Are you happy with your bank? I am used to norh fork but i dont see them as anything special. Any recommendations?

I've been with Citibank forever (I used to work for CITI). I get points on my debit Mastercard which I used to book our HM--and there are no annual fees for it. I do everything on-line with them too and it's easy.

I would go with Washington Mutual. They are VERY accommodating.

FH and I just opened a joint account at Washington Mutual and LOVE it! I have had soo many banks in the past and this one is the best. Plus its free checks for life (little things like that get me haha) and there are no monthly fees or anything.

I adore Wachovia. I think you said before you live in the Hempstead / Garden City area - and there is a branch right in Garden City.

I have been with big banks before and have nothing but problems. The customer service at Wachovia is top notch. We keep a very high overall balance, so we get several perks through our Crown Banking account - free safe deposit box, free checks, and 2 free non-Wachovia ATM withdrawals per cycle (30 days), etc. I don't remember the minimum for all this, but I think it's only $5,000 or less.

Even when we didn't have such high balances (before they had a 5% interest account, which they do now), I had totally free checking.

I have Citibank as well, I got a free account at one of my first jobs and stayed with them.

You get points for just about everything, I even decided to get a Citibank credit card and we might use the points for part of our HM.

Only problem with them if you open a savings account, I think you you need to keep a minimum (not sure what that is tho).

We opened a joint account with Roslyn, not thrilled with them. We had some type of problem with how they set up the account. The first time I called, they were so rude to me since for some reason my name wasn't on the account. As soon as FH got on the phone they were sweet as candy

We both got fed up with Astoria a few years ago (after many, many annoying incidents with them)and switched to Washington Mutual. We both love them, and have both checking and savings accounts with them. Their customer service is also great and there are a million branches all over the place. I have to say that I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I'm not sure about the savings account, because since I used to work for them both checking and savings were free and I never bothered finding out more info. after I left.

I do like their new e-savings accounts which pays a higher rate than a regular savings account.

Totally use your thankyounetwork points for HM if you can. I did and it worked out great.
