NWR: Bar study loan? How much to borrow - for Lawyers, 3rd yr students or recent law school grads

Hey ladies,

Am trying to figure out how much to borrow...while banks are still giving loans. If you recently graduated law school or will graduate this year...how much did you borrow or plan to borrow for bar study?

How much is the bar fee? Do we pay a fee for Bar admission as well?

for me it was around 3k for the bar review, and the Applications depend on the state you are taking in.

New York was 250, New Jersey for me was around 600 because I filed late (didnt realize I was taking the Jersey Bar until later)

After that, I sat down and figured out what my expenses were for each month I would be out of work and unable to make money, and based it off of that.

I dont believe there is an expense for the actual admission, but some places have extra fees like I ran into needing

There will be CLE's that are required within 1-2 years for Bar admission. Depending on the state, these can be pricey, but you may be able to get a discount

I borrowed the max I was able to, to cover the bar application fees, the hotel, the Bar Review Course, and still be able to pay my monthly bills.

If you are working for a Firm, or get an offer for a firm, some of them will cover the bar review course and possibly give you a stipend, in which case you may not need one at all.
