Re: NWR: Bar/Bat Mitzvah
well, it depends on what kind of synagogue it is. if it's a Reform Temple then the service is anywhere from an hour and 15 mins to an hour and a half or so. most likely it's Reform because Conservative and Orthodox don't do Bar/Bat Mitzvah services on Sundays....
are they going to the reception after? if so, then that's another 4 hours atleast....

She said 12:30-3:30, maybe they are leaving early.

My nephews Bar Mitzvah is in 3 weeks. The ceremony is in the morning and the reception is at night from 8-1 including the cocktail hour - just like a wedding. I CAN'T WAIT since my wedding is at the same temple!!!! I get a free tasting.

15-30 minutes?!
No.
It depends on which sect of Judaism the family subscribes to, honestly, but a full service can 90 minutes - two hours. My service was at least 90 minutes, and I'm Reform.
Of course, my Conservative cousins didn't even have a ceremony for their daughter, so who knows.

Then maybe they are just attending the ceremony. If she said she'll be 3 hours at the most, it doesnt seem like they would be going to the party.

Re: NWR: Bar/Bat Mitzvah
When I grew up, a typical Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony on a Saturday was as long as a regular Shabbat Service - anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours long at least (Conservative). Then there may be a kiddush afterwards where people kibbitz (chit-chat and mingle eating stale challah and lousy danish).
My sister just told me that her congregation is so old that they wont serve caffeinated coffee at the kiddush so the seniors dont have cardiac issues. And I am thinking, they can't get TWO coffee pots?!?!?
