nwr: best landline phone service/internet service?
FH and I are moving into our apartment in a week and a half, and we're trying to decide what to do about phone and internet - they're the only things not covered in our rent.
We need high speed internet and landline phone service. Who do you all use for these? If you don't mind saying, how much do you pay, and how much do you get for what you pay? Are you happy with your service?
Right now we're looking most closely at Verizon and Vonage. Any experiences with these two?

eta: We don't need TV service as well - just phone and internet. TV is included with our rent. Thanks!

we used vonage, no problems, great customer service.

You can use verizon for both. I don't have their internet service yet because we want to switch everything over to them (cable, phone and internet). But everyone that has them thinks they're great.

we use IO for phone, internet and cable.. It is costly but it is the only REAL high speed service out there... DSL wont cut it for the type of work FH does at the house... Since we got the 3, the 1st year is $90/month... after our 1st year of service it will be around $120...

ditto..... iO and optimum online.... (we don't have land lines for phone... only cell..... verizon.)

Or you can just run a wire to the house next door to connect to the internet...works just as good.
who needs a house phone when u have cell phones! as it is, i ignore certain people
cablevision for us is about $96 a month because we have HBO on demand, HD, then they charge us fir 2 boxes, like $6.00 each and for 2 remotes, $.22 each....and other taxes and fees.
i want satelite! i had that in my old old house and i miss my Lifetime movie channel!

I want to try to switch over to Verizon Fios TV when it becomes available in this area--it's supposed to be better, more channels and less expensive.

we don't need TV service - basic cable is a part of our rent, and that's enough for us - and we have to have a landline because FH is required to have one for his job, and I don't really like having to rely on cell phones - I've had cell service just cut out on me before. I prefer to have a backup.
And if only we could just run a wire! But that would be wrong...

We have the Optimum Triple-Play (phone, internet, cable)...the first year is great around $100 for all 3
