NWR---Best place to buy an Ipod & other q's

My b-day is next week & I'm asking FH for an IPOD. Where is the best place to get one?

Also, how exactly does it work? It comes w/ no songs & then you buy them online?

So confused.

Also once songs are on the IPOD can you erase them?

I think the best place to buy an i-pod is best buy, they have a really great service plan that you can buy in case anything happens to the i-pod.

You can either buy songs through I-Tunes or you can upload songs from your own CD collection.

You can erase songs from your I-pod by editing what is on your I-pod through I-Tunes.

Its all pretty straighforward once you have the software on y our computer.

I bought my I-Pod from an Apple store and had a great experience.

A lot of my friends have bought directly from Apple as well and if they had problems, Apple was very easy to work with.

ETA: They come without songs but, like posted above, it's really easy to load the songs on. It's nice too because once you have the i-Tunes software loaded, you can listen to the same music you have on your I-Pod on your computer.

Thanks ladies.

Also what is the best 'model' to buy?

Is the Nano sufficient; do you really need the video version? What else?

we got FMIL's at best buy and bought the service plan...she's had no problems, but it's there if she does...they will also (within the time of the plan) replace the battery should it wear out in that time!

FH bought me one from the apple store and with a student id card you get 50 dollars off or 20percent off something like that

DH bought me my pink mini from Best Buy in October of 2004. He also bought the protection plan for it. In November of 2005, my pink mini died. Apple covers repairs for a year, but not after that. So, I went to Best Buy with my protection plan and they replaced my mini with a brand new Nano!

So, moral of my story is, buy from Best Buy and get the protection plan, it is only something like $25-$40 extra. And then you can utilize the benefits of both Apple and Best Buy!!!

DH is really into the latest gadgets and always likes to shop around for the best prices, service, price-match, etc. We both have the 30GB iPod and they were both bought at Best Buy. As mentioned above, Best Buy has a great service plan and DH felt it was totally worth it to spend the extra $$ for the plan in case something happens to it a few months/years down the line.

They don't come with any music, not even a sampling of songs. You can add or delete them from your iPod anytime using iTunes. Your iPod will come with a CD to install the software on your PC. Oh and just because iPods are Apple, that doesn't mean you have to have a MAC computer. The software works in Windows as well.

I bought mine at Bestbuy also with the protection plan since the battery life is one of the weakness of the ipod.

It comes with NOTHING but a USB cable. Everything (cover, etc..) is extra.

If you use the itune software to download music, you pay $0.99 per song that your purchase but FH can download music for free.

My last Q, sorry....

What other accessories are a must?

The only accessory I have is soft case to protect from scratch.

You can get the craddle to recharge but I just use the usb cable (but you need a computer if you want to recharge with the cable).

I bought DH's first one at online Apple store and second one at Apple store---highly recommend getting a service plan whereever you buy it----the first one died within a year (hard drive malfunction) and the cost of fixing it was more than a new Ipod...Apple said they normally last longer than that....

The new ones now come with a little sleeve that protects the ipod from scratching. The only minus about it is that you have to pull out the ipod to see the display or the buttons. I got a clear plastic case instead for that.

I also got the wall charger since at the time, I was using my computer at work to load the songs on and didn't have one at home to charge off of.

don't forget, you can also load the CDs you already own into your ITUNES. I still have to do a few of mine!

We bought ours over the internet from APPLE Store and by doing it this way, we got a free engraving on it with our names on the back. It was the first thing that we put our married names on!!!
