NWR: Bird Flu?
Re: NWR: Bird Flu?
There is always a place for concern. They evaluated some lung from the flu pandemic in the early 1900's and discovered it was also a strain that crossed over from birds. Here is the thing...luckily right now you need to be exposed to the bird. If people would stop living with chickens and pigs in their houses this would not be much of an issue...or again if we stopped eating chicken all together...but that is for another day. All in all I would not let it worry you too much....
Re: NWR: Bird Flu?
I agree that you should worry. The fact that 50% of the people that were in contact with the contaminated birds died would be cause for some concern. These animals, however, did not live in peoples homes. They were on farms. Anyway, the strain of the virus that the birds currently have can only be passed from bird to bird and from bird to human. What they are afraid of happening and what has happened several times in the early 1900s, 1920s and 1950s is that the virus has mutated and then can be spread by human to human contact. That is when it will become a pandemic. Can it happen? Most definitely! But I wouldn't let it bother you in your everyday life. And the World Health Organization is trying to do everything possible to 'prevent' a pandemic (that of course should be reassuring...)
Re: NWR: Bird Flu?
I'm not worried. Remember SARS? Nothing happened there.
Re: NWR: Bird Flu?
Not really worried yet.... I hope there will nevr be a reason to start!

Not worried and I'm in nursing school so I'm sure if it was a major concern I would have heard about it

Honestly, It worries me. I'm a freak though & was worried w/SARS, Ebola, Anthrax, terrorism....should I go on? I am an R.N. and would be in the line of fire if the bird flu does get here. THAT scares me.
