Re: NWR: Birthday Presents for 1 Year Old??
I actually have a first birthday party next month and have been trying to think of things as well.
I have been leaning towards something personalized from one of those kiosks in the middle of the mall. I don't know if your party is for a boy or girl, but they have cute things for both. Otherwise, I was going to try and get something towards the book/educational activity direction. HTH!

maybe a DVD? I haven't been around kids in awhile but last time I heard, the wiggles were pretty hip

If they have a yard.. an outside toy is a great idea. A ride on car with a parent handle is great... or a wagon.

For my nephew's first birthday, I got him a small 'train' that you sit on and can steer (but it doesn't have pedals). He LOVES it, not only because he can sit on it, but because it has a lot of buttons to push and a small storage compartment beneath the seat.

I also got my nephew a book that spells out his name with animals in the form of a story about his birth. i ordered it from the internet, i think it's called ipersonalize or something like that. you can google 'personalized book' and find it. i figure it'll be a keepsake, and when he gets a bit older, he can learn animals from it, too.

I'm allll about books for children as gifts.
I recently got my good friend's son for his 1st birthday the book 'Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed' and it came with five little monkey finger puppets.... our friends said that he LOVES it...
ride on toys! DH and I got our niece a 'Gobble and Go Hippo' and my parents got her a rocking horse. She loves them both.
the hippo was only like $25
