Hi girls... just had a random question. I have an event to go to for work in a few weeks and the invitation says black tie (not a wedding, a fancy dinner honoring one of the MDs with an award). My DH doesn't own a tux and I really don't want to have to rent one just for a work function. Do you think he'll be okay wearing a nice black suit with a silk tie?
Also, what should I wear? I'm really not a evening gown type of gal. Do you think a nice knee length dress that's well accessorized will be okay? I just don't want us to be totally underdressed. Neither of us have ever been to a black tie event before.
Thanks!

Re: NWR: Black Tie Attire?
I have a black tie event that we go to every year for my office and FH doesn't have a tux either, so he just wears a dark suit and he seems to fit in just fine.
I've worn gowns to this before but I've also worn very dressy shorter cocktail dresses, too. As long as it's very dressy and not something you would wear to the office or to a regular party you should be fine.

ITA with this
for FH, dark suit, white shirt, black tie
for you, if you did a cocktail dress, it should be black and definitely not something you would wear to the office. maybe something silk or satin?
