We are actually doing this now too with a budge.. We just moved into our first house.
We spend approx: $200-300 on food a month depending on if we have company and I need to buy more.
We really don't eat out at all. We have started to bring our lunches. I make more at dinner and FH eats it for lunch the next day.
Heat: we will be on a budget plan: $150 per month
Electric: not sure yet. haven't gotten a bill
Mortgage: over $3k per month
It's a crap shoot at this point considering we just moved in a week ago..
Good luck though.. What a stressful time though with money!!!!

Re: nwr - budgets
We've been eating out a lot in the month of March but we recently went food shopping and spent a lot of food because we need to really start saving money and eating healthier. We usually go to the supermarket every two weeks and drop about $100-120. We also do our regular Target stops like every week or every two weeks and that's usually about $100 too. We are trying to cut down with our Target obsession though. I was thinking about joining BJs or Costco so we maybe could go once a month or something...

It's not that bad. I only clip for things that I will buy. Ask me if I ever remember to bring them with me to the store!

Well here is my idea..i just joined a gym...and there is a Sunday class I want to take...soooo on my way home I will stop at the 7-11 and pick up the paper!!! As long as it's in the house..I'll clip them.....then play a game each time I go and see how much I can save. If it's not a competition for me...I won't do it!!!!!

Re: nwr - budgets
Eating healthy is so expen$ive! I've been recently clipping coupons and using my Stop & Shop card. Making lunches is saving us a bundle. Also invested in a water purifer....no more bottled waters at $1.00 a piece, and it's good to the earth! $29 at target, and the filter has lasted us 6 months so far and we use it everyday!

Re: nwr - budgets
I set aside money for food every month, and go food shopping at the begininng of the month...i dont set aside $$ for household things, i just buy them as i need it (but i like to get to Costco when I can to get the big things like paper towels, toliet paper etc. lasts a lot longer)....other then that all the other money i put away from every paycheck goes towards bills like cable, car insurcance, the wedding etc.

Re: nwr - budgets
I love clipping coupons!!! I get satisfaction from it.... watch TV, go through the mail & clip clip clip!! On average I save $20 on every $100 with coupons. Also, if you shop at Shoprite (which I do) you can add your Continental one pass mile account to your shoprite price plus and get points every time you shop.
I don't really have a budget for grocery, household items. Try to be conservative & stock up when things are on sale. FH is moving in after the wedding & obviously the amount I buy is going to change (he eats A LOT!!!)
