I just got a crock pot and made our first meal in it today (Beef stew - DELICIOUS!). So here's the stupid question. There's a bunch of recipes that say need to cooked 10-12 hrs. IF I put it on while I'm at work, should I be worried that it will burn my house down??? LOL

personally i dont leave it one while i am at work just because you never know. i will leave it on if i run to the store or run out to do laundry but thats about it.
do think they say it is safe to leave them on.

they run on such low heat that you are safe. thats why they are called slow cookers since they cook food at a low point of heat for a long period of time. HTH

Thanks ladies
I think I need to ease into it. So I will leave it on overnight as I'm sleeping, that way at least I'm home lol. Eventually I will get used to it. It's just the food came out so AMAZING. Pic to come :)

There's no reason why you should be any more worried about your crock pot than you are about your fridge, microwave, or other things you leave plugged in all the time. Just make sure that you don't have anything near it that will get hot, but the outside of it usually doesn't get hot enough to catch on fire.
I crock pot cook all the time, and leave it on while I'm at work
So far...so good :)

He likes ANYTHING LOL. I'm going to try chili next. I tried doing it with regular sauce pan and I didn't like it so much so this should be great I like throwing things in based on what's in the fridge so I'll give that a try hahaha.

Pulled pork is one of our absolute favorites. Take a cheap piece of pork, add like 2 cups of your favorite bbq sauce and water to cover the meat. Cook for 8 hours on low. Get some nice crusty rolls (I like the Portuguese ones) and cornbread stuffing. It makes the house smell amazing

Can that work with a really big piece of beef? We don't eat pork but I loved how the beef in the beef stew came out so I'm thinking I can do that with a big piece of beef lol

Absolutely. Same idea, just different meat. It will come out soo good!
I just remembered to tell you, at least a half an hour before you eat, pull the meat apart with 2 forks, like you're scraping it. then let that sit in the bbq sauce mixture for a while, it makes it even more juicy!
