NWR but serious, my hair!!!

NWR but serious, my hair!!!

Is thinning!!!! I am not kidding. I have been taking synthroid for 9 months for underactive thyroid and for the last month and a half have noticed my strands getting thinner and thinner.

I have to go for bloodwork Monday and started taking biotin, but I am a little nervous and need some cheering up/advice or if anyone had a similar experience.

No one has noticed, except me of course, but it really bothers me. My hair is kind of my thing, you know? Very long and curly, a typical Leo's mane......

There are a few things that could be causing your hair loss...including stress. If your thyroid levels come back OK, speak to your doctor about other possible causes. Dont worry though it will be fine!!

I am kind of a vitamin/health guru and I know that Biotin (sort of related to the B vitamins) promotes hair growth. Many expensive hair products promoting hair growth contains biotin (check the ingredients!). My aunt who lost her hair from chemo started using them and her hair started to grow back. Howver, what is more effective than an expensive hair shampoo containing biotin/-You guessed it-taking biotin supplements! The standard amount is 10mcg (micorgrams) and you can find it in nay health food store, vitamin shoppe, etc. My friend who gets her hair colored at Bergdorfs by the famous Parvin (who also colors Martha Stewart's hair) was losing her hair and Parvin recommended biotin as well. My friend gave it a try and said to me, 'you were right (as if I didn't already know!!!) biotin does work'. Biotin is related to the B family vitamins and also aids in the immediate metabolism of fats, carbs and proteins and is essential to good health. It's found in a lot of foods (spinach, kale, chicken) but for hair growth there is no problem with taking a supplement. You may be deficient in biotion and it is NOT harmful to take a biotin supplement.

Thank you so much! I went to the Vitamin Shoppe this morning after my personal trainer recommended it.

Do you know how long it takes to notice a change? I am so impatient!

I'm sorry-I honestly don't know how long it takes for one to notice a difference. Just take it regularly and I am confident you will notice a difference. Taking an educated guess, I would say in a matetr of a few weeks but I really can't say for sure. Good luck! Also, try to avoid any pproducts containg alcohol, as they are VERY drying.

A friend of mine has to go for Vitamin B shots for this. Apparently a vitamin deficiancy can cause thinning hair.

heaven's no-alcohol as in alcohol SD 40 in hair products. Not alcohol as in 'I'd like to have an appletini.' God-I would NEVER make matters worse by telling you to avoid adult beverages while you are worrying about this. What do you think I am, a SADIST or something?

Not to get into the TMI zone, but does Biotin cause increased hair growth everywhere?? Or just on your head.

Because that might not be such a nice side effect.
