NWR: Buying a House vent/update

It's really redic what some people think their house is worth... lol They think their place is perfect just bc they renovated some things while using the cheapest materials as well... Grrrr

Good luck selling that place buddy! ***** that our 1st offer ever was denied... but what can ya do?!?! Onto the next!

try not to let it get you down.......I think FH and I put in offers on 8 houses before we went into contract!

It really is unbelievable what some people think their homes are worth though. I think some sellers fail to realize that there's a recession and the housing market has dropped!

GL with your search. You'll find something. You're looking Town of Babylon, right?

Sounds like a house we saw...was supposedly a contractor who owned it, but you would never know by the disaster it was...total frat boy, going through a divorce, remnants of party mess all over, brand new doors were kicked in, subzero stainless fridge dented in, wires hanging from the ceiling...and a parrot screaming at us. Fun times! Then we left and the house next door had 20 frat boy types loitering outside drinking and hanging out...on a Tuesday night. Just the neighborhood we want...

Ugh, buying can be sooo frustrating. Sorry about your offer but you'll find the right place for you and when you do it will all work out!

people will always try to set a price higher thinking you will cave in.

But I had the opposite.

My place is in GREAT condition with pretty new appliances (I also take care of my stuff to a fault) .

This woman went below what I paid (and I got a deal) and would not budge.

I said forget it..I'll wait.

I know the economy is bad but my area is booming and I know what my apt is worth.

It makes me mad though when I was looking and some people wanted so much for small apts!

Ugh, tell me about it - our first three offers have all been denied.

It also doesn’t help that all of the houses we find on MLS are already in contract and all that’s left are the POS!

Def not getting me down... It's a really cute place, but you have to be realistic.... They countered 2k less than their asking price which is absurd... So we're going to counter at what we think its actually worth since low balling did absolutely nothing... and if he doesnt budge again... oh well...

No, actually we're looking in Holbrook now... a bit more affordable... we lost out on babylon's down payment assistance so that really put us in a bind!

Are you on listing book? It's much more up to date than MLS. You need to get a prudential broker to set you up with an account, but once you do, it's great.

Some people don't care if they can sell it unless they can sell it for what they want to get. My mom is that way currently with her house in FL. If she gets what she wants for it she will sell it, if not then she won't.

I feel like every offer we made and got turned down on was a blessing because the house we got was so much better. My parents say the same thing.

Friends of ours just bought in Holbrook and they love it!

I'd absolutely counter at what you think the house is worth. If they don't take it, you'll find something else.

Good luck and keep us posted. I hope yo ucan get something soon so you can still qualify for the $8,000 first time homebuyer's credit.

We've been looking for about six months and STILL have not found one house we want to put an offer in on. I'm sorry but I'm not compromising when it comes to my hard earned money!

I know what you mean Gina. Some people really go overboard with that they think their house is worth. You wil find a perfect house- that last house was not meant to be! Best of luck!!

We didnt think we would put in an offer this soon... but theres very little to chose from in condos and as long as the place was updated and clean with no major renovations having to be done, we are okay with that.... I had things i would change here and there, nothing major, so we thought now was as good as a time as any! I think its a bit easier with condos though....we looked at 5 yesterday within the same development... so it was more or less than same layout, just with some minor diff here and there so its much more easier to make comparisons and really see who is off their rocker with their asking price LOL

Re: NWR: Buying a House vent/update

The people who we bought our house from had a contract out on another house already.

So DH and I got an awesome price allowing us to do the renovations we wanted to do make it 'ours.'

Keep putting offers in. Sellers will soon be so frustrated that they will accept the best 'lowball' offerr they get.

Re: NWR: Buying a House vent/update

it's ok! we low-balled on our first offer - like waaay under where what we were willing to pay and then we went back and forth for almost a month counter-offering eachother. in the end, we paid exactly what we wanted. unless you're really in love with the house, don't get upset! it's the experience that matters the most. good luck! you will find your dream home and pay exactly what you want for it!!!
